If you unpack a shiny new drone on Christmas morning, it's possible you'll have to get Uncle Sam's permission before you can fly it.

NBC News is reporting that the federal government will soon announce new requirements for drones, the most severe of which is that consumer drones will need to be registered with the Department of Transportation.

And your pocket book.  You can bet that there will be a fee involved.

Another tax revenue scheme. That they cannot enforce.

Hey, not only another tax, and system of records, but with any luck a whole new bureaucracy.

Another win for the G.

Mixed feeling about this.    I surely want Drone/Quad Operators responsible for what happens with their "equipment".    I'm also not thrilled with more government regulators/regulations.

I have similar thoughts on this but, I have to ask a couple questions;

1) will the "registration" be for national usage of a drone?

2) what's the difference between a drone and a remote control airplane/helicopter people use? And do people who fly remote airplanes and helicopters need to have them registered?
