Vultures STINK

I base my finding on a very CLOSE encounter with one of these carrion eaters. I had just turned South on Mo. 17 from Mo. 38 East and was easing thru the sweepers there on 17. The foul fowl in question was startled by the Phatt Ghurl and I disturbing it's meal. The bird-did NOT have the time to determine sex-took off and parralleled my direction of travel and was to my right then bared slightly left which put my helmet under the junction of It's left-starboard-wing and it's body. The feathers brushed my helmet!  YUK and double YUK.  The dead forest rat on yesterdays ride smelled better than this live Vulture.    Thank GOD he didn't take a dump on me as I had a Vulture take a dump on the hood of my Toranado and it was never the same after that.  It was alive-the vulture-but definitely smelled dead. RIDE SAFE.

Yes they do.  When I was operating heavy equipment we did a lot of new landfill cells. At the end of the day these strange creatures would gather on top of the huge pile sitting on the semi dumps. Big lifts that will lift the whole semi and empty the trailers contents out the rear. We talked a guy into going up there to try to catch one. While he was trying, one above him puked all over him. I have never smelled anything so bad in my life. He got to ride in the bed of the truck abck to the motel. Even 3 days later you could smell it on him. So he got the nickname "buzzard"

They have their purpose in nature; clean up the roadkill and feast on the remains of the day.            After all, don't they accomplish the same mission as most personal injury lawyers?

They will usually puke on you before the will Chit on you. Either one is really bad.

Damm things can be persistent also, we had a coon get run over in front of the house 2 feet from my mailbox.  Itook some gloves and picked it up and tossed it in a field across the street. Damm vultures found it and I be darned if they picked it up out of the fields and drug it in my front yard to eat it.

First off, they have no sense of smell that's how they can eat what they do, but they have extremely good eye site.

A guy I used to work with owned some timber land where turkey vultures would roost at night.  He said the stench of there st!t was overwhelming.

Yep, they stink to high heaven.    I took one out once while flying an OH58 Scout helicopter.   The impact occurred about dusk while flying about three hundred feet AGL on the WSPS (Wire Strike Protection System).   Not sure if I hit the bird or, it hit me but the end result was the bird was ripped in half and left it's remains all over the upper half of the A/C.    The impact was just below the top of the cabin so, I was very aware of the bird strike but, not sure what it was.............  Until I landed and shut down.    It stunk so badly, no other pilots would fly the A/C for almost a month.   While I did help clean the mess up, it still took the entire maintenance team about three days to get all the little pieces out of crevices, nooks and crannies of the A/C.   

I distinctly remember seeing other pilots chase buzzards just so they could watch them "dump" their loads.    After my incident, I stayed as far away as possible.   Stink just doesn't describe how bad they can smell.

My brother ran into one that misjudged the shoulder of the road.
It took off and turned right into his path. I was dyin laughin till the stench overwhelmed us.

Put him ridin drag! Long time ago I hit a skunk with my fairly new Kenworth. THOUGHT that smelled raunchy til I got a whiff of that vulture.  RIDE SAFE.
