I'm in the process of changing all fluids etc etc on my "new" 98 tourer.
Bought a Sears lift. Old one destroyed in house fire.
Thought about building a wood adapter. Thought about buying the previous kind of adapter I owned. The type that has to be fitted to the bike each time the lift is going to be used.
Decided I didn't want either.
Wood one was practical but never felt 100% solid.
Metal one was a pain in the butt to lift up and attach.
Yeah, yeah pause here whilst others tell me how wonderful each of them are.

So I do a Google search on adapters and eventually I get to the link for this
http://www.ebay.com/itm/170895926144?euid=b1e4b925a34a4ad7b7908a0d6b59bbbb&cp=1&exe=13453&ext=34391&sojTags=exe=exe,ext=extFit to bike and forget. I know others have done that by mistake with the previously mentioned metal one.

So click the button to buy it and wait for the USPS to deliver.
Looks well made and sturdy.
Time to fit it to the bike.
Roll lift into place and start to follow instructions.
Get all necessary tools laid out on the floor. This rental house doesn't have much in the way of light in the garage and I can't see where it's to fit.
Creak up off the floor and get a flashlight.
Creak down on to the floor.
Turn flashlight on and aim beam of light at kickstand cross member and you wil never guess wht's revealed.
OK You will guess.
Yep, one of the frickin adapters is already in place.
I lay on my back laughing like a hyena for about 5 minutes and then chuckled and giggled for about 10 more minutes.
Once recovered I jacked the bike up and with hand on heart this is the most stable adapter I've ever used.
I'd previously made a wood one and used the metal one that needed to be put on and taken off.
Plus it stays unobtrusively fitted to the bike.
