40 Years Ago Today.   Most famous shipwreck of my lifetime the Edmund Fitzgerald went down in Superior.   Hard to believe that amount of time has gone by.  If one ever gets to ride in the U. P., it is wonderful. The memorial and all other Great Lake shipwrecks can be seen at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, Paradise, Michigan.  It is a bit eerie but very informative with a lot of the equipment and boats that the originals used to help rescue distresses boats.

I second that.  The museum is something to see.

When the Fitzgerald went down, 85 mph winds were recorded at the Big Mac bridge.

There was an ocean going vessel following the Fitz and had her on radar. In one sweep, the Fitz was gone.

Lake Superior is not to be messed with.

I'm embarrassed to admit this but for a long time I thought the Edmund Fitzgerland was just a cool song.

That whole lake is a graveyard.
There was a recent article about super clear water and many wrecks were visible from the surface.

Fished Lake Michigan off Waukegan Il. a time or two. Friend of mine had a 18 or 19 foot I/O and more than a few times we'd be on glass smooth water and in an eye blink-6-7 foot swells and couldn't get back to the harbor quick enough. Had the kaka scared outa me on that big pond.  Lips Sealed I was still living in Illinois when the Edmond Fitzgerald went down. Sad day. My first encounter with an under tow was in Lake Michigan almost to the Wisconsin border. None of the Great Lakes are to be taken lightly. RIDE SAFE.
