There must be something wrong with me, because I just don't understand it!!  Just watch TV News, and I guess it comes from USA Today, 100 million dollars given to VA workers that didn't earn it, and in the next breath, turning Vets away because lack on funds.  What is wrong with this country, why is the gov so corrupt. Why does the citizens put up with it?  Or am I just getting it wrong, and if I am, please correct me. I mean, this stuff seems to be done in plain sight, with a "So What" attitude.  This stuff just boils my blood, and I have to vent!!!!!

I spent some time doing an externship at the VA hospital in Northport, NY.  The only ones working at and above capacities are the nurses and doctors.  Notice that I put the nurses first.

The news article states "The top bonuses went to top executives in the Veterans Health Administration". I have worked for the VA for the past 10 years and know many people who work at the hospital who are good workers. Many of them are low payed workers. I myself work in the biomed department and took a $20,000.00 a year cut in pay to come here to work. I work here because I care for veterans.

My experience working at a VA agency was that the top leadership paid themselves a big chunk of the bonus money made available for THAT agency, then the rest was given out to somewhere near 40% of the remaining workforce.  They did seem to reward the best and hardest working employees, but that would be more like maybe 5%, not 40%.

A lot of people were bonused for showing up to work consistently and not screwing up too often.

I think the main reason they pay so many is they simply lack the ability to set and keep objective standards, and because they are afraid of charges of discrimination (race, gender, handicap, low wage earners, yada).

Correct me if I am wrong!! But I don't see the logic, If you have a facility basically circling the drain.  Why are you passing out bonuses any way. Bonus money is an extra, that you acquire by making profit, and is given if you have done a good job, not because you exist.  And in reality company is not obligated to give it to anyone. Or had business practices and common sense changed.

Common sense is becoming increasingly less common.

I'm with you all the way.

Yet the Hildabeast chastises the repubs for a suggestion of adapting private business practices.
And the lemmings just love it.

Considering the state of the Fed G, no bonus should be paid to anyone.

While civil service may not equal private pay scales in many fields, no one in this country has a better more secure future, benefits, health care, leave, pension, 401K, and employee protection.

If charity starts at home, so does responsibility and frugality.

Pass a simple law;  No Fed G bonus to anyone.  Once there is no national debt remaining (in 6666), then the G can consider whether bonuses may be reinstated for the top 2% performers. (And SES, and top leadership can never get bonuses)

Don't want ANY misunderstandings-I get very good care at my V A facility-West Plains Mo. and the Hospital at Poplar Bluff Mo. BUT-THAT word again-I don't interact with the upper echelons of the folks that actually run the V A medical system. My Doctors and Nurses and the Receptionists make me feel at home and comfortable and that I matter. UNLIKE when I was with a Dr. in private practice when I was working. My only question is-WHY does ANY gubmint employee rate a bonus?? They KNOW going in HOW much money they will earn and what the vacation benefits are. I KNOW at the West Plains clinic they work only Monday thru Friday. Entire weekend and All national holidays off. I believe it was at the first of this year-2015-that the "scandal" of the long wait times and physical standards way below normal in certain clinics. The S O Bs in charge of those and the falsifying of records SHOULD have been fired.  cooldude RIDE SAFE.

Don't ever get the impression that the whole bushel of apples is rotten, there are some really good apples in there. You just got to get rid of the rotten ones before the good ones go bad. And far as the bad apples are concern, the Vets should have the right, to see how far they can throw them.

I echo that sentiment.  Myself and the majority of my coworkers at my VA agency were dedicated people who worked very hard to do right by every individual veteran and the taxpayers.  We did this not because of management, HR, PC, the Federal Court for Veteran's Claims, and untold quantities of BS..... but in spite of it.

Every time I read this or other discussions about our corrupt government and all the atrocities taking place against our own hard working honest citizens, the words of this song keeps popping into my head................
"This world is not my home, I'm just a passing through.......".  Things sure aren't looking good for a lot of us anymore.  God bless our vets!
