im about to buy a front tire for my interstate and would like to know which tires are good and which to stay away from, I'm running a brand new Dunlop elite 3 on the rear just because I got it for free, but the price for a matching front is more than the Avon which I heard was better, so I would like to hear from the pros, thanks

yah, avon cobra's are middle of the road in price, you won't get the dunlop elite III to perform or be any better at a much higher price.
You don't have to have a matching set.

Metz ME 880 (V rated, not the H) only front I'd run. Not great mileage but best grip out there IMHO

Ditto to Mr Whiskey... Metzler ME880. I have run them on both front and rear the past few years, and definitely feel they have the best grip on slick roads than any others I have run. Bumped up to 40 psi I get outstanding mileage on the front and it wears very evenly. The rear unfortunately, lasts about half as long, riding 2 up on my IS about 70% of the time. Best at around 45 psi though , and better than the E3 in every respect is my experience.

I ran Metzelers for years. This year I switched to Avon Cobras and am very happy with them. In my opinion, the Avons are much better on tar snakes and look like they are wearing better. I ride on mostly country twisty roads and cannot complain on the mileage I got with my last set of Metzelers. I got 12k on the front and 9k on the rear. I am hoping to get more from the Avons.

Whaddaya want from tires should depend on type of riding you do. Do you want a soft road gripping tire that will hug the road in the twisties like a sport bike riding the track and wear down quickly or a harder compound tire that will get great longevity in the mileage department and probably do well for Interstate touring.

Don't count on getting more than 12K front, 9K or so rear tire from the Avon Cobras. That seems about the norm no matter what tire you use, or at least I would use. My cobras lasted 9-10K rear and still on my front avon cobra but is pushing 11-12K now so about time next year to consider replacing the front tire, for sure if not next year the following year with 15K VERY tops.

That would be a no brainer for me. Avon all the way. Price should not even be a factor. 40psi.

I've been running the Bridgestone BatlAx BT45 rear on the front for some years on the wing and Deerslayer. Gets better mileage than Cobras which were my last preferred fronts. Also the tread is deeper, so is the rubber; might stick better or not, I'm not a racer so can't say I can evaluate at a racer's level. They are bias so you can run them a mite softer which improves the ride. Price is good.

I've tried about every brand of tire that there is. For grip Avon Cobras are my favorite. All of them seem to get about the same mileage on the front, the rears are a different story. My next front tire will be one of these: Shinko 230 Tourmaster I haven't ran one on the Valk yet, but I'm running them on my 750 Vulcan and like it alot.
