Around here it sounds like a war zone from the bird hunters. I am about 10 houses from the lake, and I think it is if you are 30 feet from shore, and shoot with shotguns, naturally shoot out into the lake, you can hunt. Sometimes when I am in the back of the house it sounds like someone is knocking on the front door. I wish they could do in some of those Canadian geese, they are a nuisance, and I think a health hazard. When they crap, you nearly trip over it, and they just dominate flat areas. You really have to look before you put a blanket down, I just don't see them as endangered any more, there are thousands and thousands of them. You touch them you are screwed.

I don't hunt, but a little googling looks like they're not endangered and you can hunt them in Michigan, far as I can tell? http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,7-153-10363_10859---,00.html

They basically walk down the street, in a sense. Don't need a gun, just walk out and grab one. Funny thing is there is a few homeless people in the area, surprised they haven't enjoyed some fine meals.

Goose or geese espically the Canadian brand are not endangered. They are a migratory bird so are protected under federal government.

Don't know about tripping over Goose poop but I currently have two piles of bear poop in my yard that can be dangerous to foot travel!

You can't shoot Canada Geese in Michigan ?
We are in one of flyways and we shoot the heck out of them here in NY. And, yes, they are a problem.

I think the problem is with those that live in cities. They make an awful mess, and you cant shoot them there.

Geese feces usually contain the parasites cryptosporidium, giardia, coliform, and campylobacter. Cryptosporidium poses the most serious health hazard. You can modify certain pellet rifles that can shoot just under the velocity (and report) of a 22 cal. for sensitive type areas like cities

Yep, they do find populated areas where they know they are safe. They are messy critters and goose grease is slippery as heck.

In Westchester its a real problem
Thousands upon thousands too stupid to migrate (the geese not the democrats- just a joke son) they just stay year round gettin fat and crappin in the reservoirs
And you cant shoot em cause the bleeding hearts control the legislature
heck you cant even discharge a firearm in westchester

Hell I don't think I'd being flying my ass off for hundreds of miles if I could sit around and get fat. Oh wait I'm already there. Do people feed them. Or are they eating the fish ?

You just triggered something in my head! Just thinking out load, but often you may see almost a hundred of these Canadian geese on one of the large lawns, foraging. One thing comes to mind, is often these people get their lawns sprayed with chemicals, that can't be healthy meat. You don't see ducks on the lawns, they are in the water, but may be the chemicals wash into the water, where the duck forage also. Interesting thought!

[ Geese are vegetarians] Chemicals are a problem for all of us. I just had a good conversation with an old friend who is now involved with Monsanto and BASF. The fellas down south have been pretty upset with us northerners for a long time because the waterfowl 'shortstop' here in NY and spend the winters. There is plenty of open water and feed for them. They get shot by the millions here, but, some still find safe areas in the cities and can be a real PITA.

Did not used to be any here in the winter. They all went south, but now they stay around all winter and crap all over the yards, parks, and roads. If you shoot one you better make sure no one sees you as you might make the newspaper.
