I started paying taxes at 14 and worked full time all through my High School years. I have held full time jobs (and sometimes two) and I also worked full time while attending college (paid my own expenses), and yes, I've had short periods of unemployment. In 2007 I had become partially paralyzed due to a spinal chord and neuromuscular desease. After surgery in 2008 and again in 2010, my doctors informed me that some of my issues may have been helped, others may have been temporarily arested, and some won't be due to progressive deterioration. Yes, I now receive Social Security Disability. I would rather have kept working, but I cannot, yet I still continue (at least try) to live a somewhat normal existence. I am politically active, am a motorcycle rights advocate and ride my motorcycles when I'm able. (Now Valkyrie Related) But now this piece of $hit says that I'm a Mooch!!!! http://www.cbsnews.com/news/alan-simpson-social-security-is-like-a-milk-cow-with-310-million-tits/

Feeling a little touchy this morning? Or maybe you do feel like a mouch since you have an ethic of work and want to pay your way in stark contrast to all the ones he is actually speaking of.
I know a guy who was a veteran and is now going for disability NOT because hes a war hero or war injury but because between all the benefits he receives he will make roughly 1k a week. Not bad for not working which he could do.
Common dont let this get to you because in most situations today that I see he's correct. You like everyone else paid into SS and it was supposed to be for retirement and supposed to be financed by accruing interest off the secured money that was supposed to be put in a fiduciary account not able to be touched by politicians raping any source of money available. Its such a far cry from what we have today and I believe that there should be some jail time for those in office over this.
I would think you would be just as upset as he is over this current state of SS. Why because the actual moochers are taking away money from legit people such as yourself that the system was designed to help. This puts every benefit at risk and causes grief for those who really need it. Don't let false emotion and misguide guilt take away the truth of the matter.

Just another example of a politician painting with too broad of a brush. In my opinion, Mr. Simpson is absolutely right about the fraud and corruption that is running rampant in the system. Where he isn't right is when he fails to qualify his remarks to remove people in your situation from them. Another example of the amoral among us causing problems for those that are truly in need.

I, like Momz, started paying SS taxes a long time ago, in 1944. Except for a brief stint in the VA, I've paid SS taxes ever since. Still paying some back out of my retirement. The arsehole robbers in DC raped the SS fund.
When I applied in 1991 at the SS office I expected to see a lot of white hair. I seen, instead, most of the opposite. No further comment on that.
Now there is no COLA for SS recipients in 2016. These liars in DC says gas is cheap so no increase.. BS!. My Medicare premiums are going up for 2016.
So Momz, don't worry about those BS liars. You and I are just getting back SOME of what we paid in. The tit suckers, the bureaucrats, and the pols are getting the rest.

I'm not quite old enough to get into the SS fray, so I haven't paid it much attention, yet.
Am I missing something new?
Simpson made those comments back in 2010.
He took alot of grief from it, deservedly so, and made an apology to OWL in a letter.

Momz don't take offense, you are not one of them!! I know this guy, use to kind of hang around somewhat. Awhile back, he did something to his back, he is in his late 30's supposedly he can't work. So he is on SSD, gets $200 in F stamps, has a new sport bike, new pickup truck and lives in his condo in a good neighborhood. Thing I asked him, if you can ride a sport bike and play drum all day, why do you need SSD, why can't you work? That did go over well! But they are out there, and there are a bunch of them. So don't let what that douche has to say bother you.

Yes-as a matter of FACT I am "entitled" to my S S Benefits since I did work all my life for them. While I sorta understand the vetting process for disability It's NOT 100% infallible. Let's just say I'm familiar with "inconsistencies" on my 2nd ex wives side of the family and leave it at that. My next question-WHY the need for barristers when applying for S S disability?? Well, I started paying taxes at 12 and one 4th of July weekend when I was coming back from a "short" day I watched a guy taking disability, for his back, load his truck full of coolers and luggage because he was going to the beach for the rest of the holiday week. I was coming into work the next day. I was about 14.
so.... To whom it may concern, there are a buttload of moochers out there and there have always been. In the last 30 years we have added BS self inflicted diseases to put more able bodied on the dole. Drinking to much makes you a drunk, not inflicted with a horrid disease that I should be paying you to stay out of work for. You make a choice to pick up a bottle. Same with drugs and whatever mental anguish someone wants to pin as a disease. Every time they add a fake disease that is either a choice or self regulating to spend SS on, the money I am putting in goes out because there are not enough of us working to support everyone on the dole, legitimately, for years much less the freeloaders because there IS NO TRUST FUND. It has been a direct transfer form the working to the non working for years. So take what you get because for a lot of us, we will never see what we and our employers put in.

No there is nothing new Bill. This is old news. For the record I like Mr. Simpson. He seems to me to have the nations interest at heart. He seems to be an honorable man to me.

Agree 100%. The claim that Social Security is an "entitlement" is absolute BULL - we pay into it all of our lives and when we claim it you feel that it is acting as if we're "entitled" to have it (back)??! Maybe, maybe if you corrupt criminal politicians weren't pillaging the Social Security fund to pay for your debts and fiascoes, the money would still be there! In 2014 the debt was said to be $5 trillion - and then some pundits claim that it isn't "debt" because "it's borrowing from yourself" so as to allow the scum politicians to bail on the bill. NO, S/S is a TRUST FUND so a loan is a LOAN, period, pay it back.
