Trying to plan our Sturgis 2016 trip. Only staying 2 days in Sturgis, Deadwood actually. Then off to Cooke City MT for 2 days. Not sure where from there. Im thinking Utah. The sat we should be in Utah. So that gives us 6-7 days to get back to Ind. Im guessing leave Utah tue for home. So roughly 3 days to see stuff in Utah. Is it doable? We don't have to see everything, just some Nat Parks. Looking at online maps and it shows no easy/direct way to each park. How are the rooms around the areas? Busy and need to book ahead or just wing it? Thx.
We're gonna decide this winter. May go further west or north. Once we decide I may hit you all up for info.  cooldude

Depending on how damn hot it is think about Glacier Park and Highway to the Sun  Heck Route 12 LoLo pass thru Idaho is a great ride
but its far west of Beartooth (like 1 full day to Missoula from Cooke CIty)
High altitude will be cooler for sure  Utah can get pretty damn hot

Also Think about it if you have not done 550 from either direction in SW Colorado  (and 160 going east and south)

Sounds like fun Brian !

I can remember back in 83 at evening as sun slowly going down and in my rear view mirror was this vast display of colors coming out of Bryce.  Every shade and hue of reds and purples.  Just had to pull over and soak it all in.  Yes go see Utah.

That would be what we do if we headed north.

A big "depends" when you journey to the great wide open spaces is answered with a question of how much "civilization" do you require?  If you need hotels, restaurants, attractions, indoor plumbing, etc., then reservations and planning are essential because the thousands of tourists from our country and all over the world are booking them.  Are you content with being of the herd or want the REAL experience?
If all you require is a place to lay your sleeping bag and camp gear down for a night under the stars (and you'll be just overwhelmed by it!), it's called BLM territory and the U.S. Forest Service managed lands. Spending a few days out in the country's quiet and solitude always validates my paying of taxes for the privileges afforded.
We've got more designated "free land" in the West than anywhere else in the lower 48 and it is cheaper than any hotel room at or near the parks.

So, check out the government websites for public lands; you pay for them, consider them if that's your style.
