Went to local WalMart to get a few things, mainly for mom. While I was there I checked the ammo locker. It was pretty well stocked with most everything , less 22 and 32. It was just a little lighter after I left....

My local WalMart actually HAS bricks of .22 more often than not these days... To the point I DON'T immediately buy the maximum whenever I see 'em in stock anymore...

Buy them up and send what you dont want to me please. I actually looked into doing that for another friend of mine and the shipping cost would have been ridiculous or I was going to... Few weeks back, this was 3 days AFTER they got a shipment, this much was still there...

I don't care what The Evil Empire has. They get NONE of my money. Never have and never will. I have been able to stock up online and various local opportunities such that I have all the ammo I care to buy. Including thousands of rounds of 22LR.

Nazi Jersey does not allow Walmarts to sell ammo or guns, I don't think even knives, NJ stopped Kmart during the commie rosie days. KM solds guns/ammo for decades in NJ.

I was at the Cabelas over on the west side of Phoenix on the Friday before black Friday and they had three pallets of .22 CCI Mini Mag in 300 rd. boxes with no limits.

Availability of .22 really isn't an issue. Availability of inexpensive or reasonably priced .22 might be. The fact that WalMart is low or out, and still limits that to 3 boxes per person means they are more than likely the least expensive. Cabellas not so much I don't think.

What drives me crazy about my Walmart is the ammo is behind the counter in a locked case (yes that's normal), but I cannot see/read most of what they have from outside the counter, and there's never anyone at the counter. And when I go behind the counter to look, where I can see, someone magically appears and treats me like a felon-thief. Just ask me what you are looking for.I am looking at everything... I need to see the calibers, bullet type/weights, manufacturers, quantities, prices. I just cannot shop at Walmart for ammo. I order in bulk from warehouses mostly anyway, but it would be nice to know what the hell they have. Maybe I should take my binoculars with me. Hey, did you steal those binoculars?
Do you guys sell Zeiss?

Smart Ass. Not only am I not allowed behind the counter (no one), even with someone standing there ( I'll lose my job mister), they don't know dick about ammo. Are those hollow points or full metal jacket?
I don't think any of our ammunition is hollow.

They are a mass market merchant with no employee training - do you really think that Wal-Hell spends the time and money to teach the people about the products they stock on their shelves??!
You want knowledge, you go to a specialist. That's the way it has always been. If you want product knowledge then that must be sought out and often paid a bit extra for (sometimes not, and that's when you are really lucky and should throw every purchase that way!)

I still can't wrap my head around $5-$7 per 50 of .22! Our local farm supply always used to have 500 rd bricks right on the check out counter, for $15-$16! At least I still have some of those around, but not near enough. 10 cents per shot for .22? Terrible.
The makers of .22 ammo must be multi billionaires!

I have about 2500 rounds of .22. That's enough for my needs. The other day at the range I spent a nice pleasant hour shooting 50 rounds through my Ruger Mark II. Practicing breath control, sight picture, and trigger control. I don't need no spray and pray I saw online awhile back some guy had 26,000 rounds of .22 and still buying. I guess that he was going to get it before the hoarders do. Ask yourself, if it all goes down, just how many rounds will you need of any caliber? Jes my thoughts.

Personally, not a whole lot, but the theory goes if it all goes down, ammo will become a very highly valued currency, and could be bartered for other things of value quite easily, thus the stockpiling and hoarding.

I think the majority of hoarders are not hoarding for s SHTF situation but more from an economical stand point. Everything is going up in price and the last few years ammo prices have greatly increased while availability of reasonably priced ammo decreased significantly. The value of the dollar goes down and the value of ammo goes up. I've spent some old .22 ammo as cash at about double what I paid. And, If you first want to make sure you have enough to enjoy your hobby, get some. And second, if you want to ensure the costs associated with enjoying your hobby are kept lower over the years....get even more. As of yet, ammo is not a very perishable item, it keeps for many many years easily enough. Food and other consumable items not so much, even cars, motorcycles and other hobby toys have a shelf life and a significant depreciation it seems. Never seen ammo depreciate......it is sometimes even more valuable than the money used to buy it on the same day.

Yeah, you're right, I know that. I started shooting when .22 ammo was one penny per round.
I also think that the idea of buying ammo in this crazy market now is driving up prices to a certain extent. The law of supply and demand.
There a lot of new shooters coming into the game (according to Federal Ammo maker) and starting out with .22's. We could be doing these new shooters a disfavor by buying the hell out of .22 ammo.
To me, there are hoarders, speculators, and persons just wanting a reasonable supply of .22 ammo. maybe we should ask ourselves, which one am I?
Note that .380 ammo is/ was in short supply due to the manufacturers making sub compact pistols. 9mm ammo is still cheaper than .380.
Steve Hornady said awhile back that people come into a store, see that there's not much available, and buy all that they can get their hands on. The next guy comes in and panics, etc.

Distrust of the Feds doesn't help.
Whew...had to reread what I thought said. ".22 ammo was a penny a pound." LOL. In any event just think of the savings or value of it today if you stocked up at a penny a round (not quite as much as a penny a pound tho). I think most accept 8 cents as today's norm, many at 10 or more are still selling tho it seems, when only a few years it was 4 cents a round.

i just bought 100 rounds of 44 mag, the winchester in the white box. my gun loves that stuff. A dollar a shot. and i shot it all up last night. good thing i'll be reloading. i now have 800 rounds of brass and enough powder and primers and bullets to load them several times. might pick up a few more hundre rounds of brass. I can reload these for about 55 cents a piece.

Oh yes, .44 mag is one of my favorites. When I started reloading with a Lyman Ideal tong tool (nutcracker) the .44 is what i started on. I used Elmer Keith's original load of 22. grains of 2400 and a 240 hard cast lead semi wad cutter. Worked great. A note for everyone......Use this reload data at your own risk. A very good caliber even though it's outranked in bragging power now by the .500 Smith, LOL.
I need to get with my sons and start reloading again as we chipped in for a 550 Dillon. A far cry from the nutcracker and even the RCBS single stage press that I graduated to.
