I just talked to Bill, my old friend. Bill was a WWII paratrooper who served in the Pacific.
If you recall, I posted a photo of Bill as he was boarding the Honor Flight last year. Here is the pic again.

I was telling Bill that I finally received the news that I will be on the Honor Flight next April. He was happy for me.
Bill gave a lot in WWII. He told me that he was saved by the Hiroshima bomb as he was scheduled to be part of the Japan invasion. Now he lives alone, he's still mentally ok but physically it's getting harder for him to get around. Such is the end result eventually for all vets.
After talking to Bill for almost two hours I was reminded that WWII vets are leaving as at a rapid pace. Now the same is happening to Korean War vets.
As you know, RJ was a Marine Korean War vet. It wasn't too long ago that I emailed RJ about the Honor Flight, he certainly deserved it. He applied once then withdrew his name but didn't reapply, he said.
Now RJ is gone and all that remains is his memory. Life goes on.
I know that I'll remember being chosen for the Honor Flight. I also know that I'll be reminded about the sacrifices that our Armed Forces have made. The Memorials for WWI, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam Wall, and the others are honorable reminders of those who served.
If some think that I'm waving the Flag, so be it, I am! "For God and Country"
