As a C D L holder at the time the Company I earned my paycheck from-Heartland Express-I was also-well the Company and I-guided by Federal Motor Carrier Safety laws. I was subject to a random pee test at any place and anytime-though too be fair I had those tests during "normal" work hours-between 0800 and 1700 Hrs. You could decide to NOT take the ordered pee test BUT-again a but-you were terminated on the spot. Yup-knew one or two that had been terminated one lost his suit AND it makes it "difficult" to get hired on with another outfit after refusing the drug test. ME you ask-I NEVER failed a drug test. Personally I want ALL on duty L E Os clean and sober cause most of the L E Os I know carry loaded weapons.  RIDE SAFE.

I have to do random testing.  So far, have only been "chosen" twice while working in the office (other than to get hired... and 14 years in the business).

I have, however, been checked 4 or 5 times when offshore.  To be fair, the ENTIRE location was tested (including 3rd party).

This case should be thrown out immediately... they carry weapons, they should be sober.

Can't even estimate how many times I've pee'd in the bottle in the military and civilian world, as an enlisted man, an officer and then as a production manager, I've administered and sent people for drug screens.   I have no problem with taking one or sending someone for one.   I also don't blame the police union for testing the waters, I hope they lose the battle.   I want my LEOs clean and sober but, they are no better or worse than the rest of us.
