My 'gun' letter to the editor was published today with no editing.  The first comment, on line, in the paper (anonymously) was derogatory of my letter.

Well written letter, Wayne.

As a responsible gun owner and concealed carry permit holder, I have never felt
that the government was planning to take my guns. Sometimes, I think gun
and ammo makers are fanning that fire, behind the scenes. They have
become very rich because of such fears.

I would take you to task on the line, regarding Roosevelt, "He did not wage war on our citizens, nor did he blame our citizens for Japan’s act of aggression."

Two words, "internment camps". Approximately, 120,000
lawful  citizens were rounded up and kept like prisoners,
just because of their race.

I also believe that people who disagree on certain issues can be still be
respectful and friendly toward one another. I have seen a troubling trend
on the board, where if someone disagrees with one topic, they are
labeled the enemy. The silliest thing I have seen, is calling anyone who
leans to the left as the enemy and making presumptions that aren't
necessarily true. I'm an independent who voted democratic the past two
elections, but that doesn't mean I am a gun hater and against capital
punishment. These issues are not black and white (no pun intended) and most of
us are somewhere in the middle, not far right or far left. But you would never
know it, reading some of these posts.

Ron, since I was 13 at the time of the interment of Japanese Americans, I do remember it.  It was sold to us that they were dangerous but it was about race as you said. The population of the US at that time was 133 million.  It was a small percentage of the population but still wrong. Roosevelt, a Democrat, did it by executive order 9066.  An apology was issued by another president, Reagan, a Republican.

That is neither here nor there since Roosevelt did what had to be done.  The citizenry was treated right for the most part.

I would venture to say that the Executive orders by Obama have done much to affect a number of the LAW ABIDING citizens in a negative way.  probably many more than 120,000.  Of course, Obama is a a Democrat.

You might ask yourself............. If the Democrats would regain the Senate and we would have another Democrat president, AND if a vacancy would open up in the SCOTUS, could we, the gun owners, lose our right under the Second.?   I believe that it could be a real possibility and I believed this before I was an NRA Life member.

I do not trust our Democrats and I barely trust our Republicans.

I am very passionate about the direction that the POTUS is pushing our country (he is NOT leading) so I must remind myself that other people should be respected for a different opinion.

Wayne, as a wise white haired old man I'm sure you know the first comment isn't always the wisest comment.  Smiley
