Roadog, I'm not going to get in a pissing match with you about gun ownership. That was not my intention with my earlier post. I asked a very simple question, because I was looking for a very straight forward answer. Where did you see me 'trying to disarm' you?

And again, thanks to those that did answer the question.....

And I call Bullshit on this one.  A pissing contest is exactly what you were looking for.

Well then, to contribute to the statistics, we've had three instances.  Fortunately didn't have to shoot anyone.  In one instance, showing the weapon was all it took.  In the other two, it came down to holding the would be assailants at gun point.

What really opened my eyes though was what happens during even a partial societal breakdown.  We lived in Miami during the Liberty City riots.  We were in the affected area when it started and didn't realize it.  We were driving the kids home from a Saturday school function and noticed what looked like national guard troops stacking sandbags and establishing check points.  We though it was some kind of exercise until we got home and saw the news.  Here's what happens at that point.  The first thing the authorities do is close all gun shops and prohibit the sales of guns and ammo, so what ever you have is all you're going to have.  I lived a block outside of the curfew zone.  A guy I worked with lived a few blocks inside the curfew zone.  He called the police and told them that there were groups of thugs walking the streets and breaking into houses.  The police told him and I quote, "We're at capacity, you're on you're own".  He asked what if they try breaking into my house and the police said, shoot them and we'll help you with the paperwork once things settle down.

That taught me all I needed to know about gun ownership and having the ability to protect oneself.

Call Bullshit all you want. To respond as others have to other posts I've made....you don't even know me. You're just spring loaded to the pissed off position looking for a fight. I purposely asked that question as simply as I possibly could, for the exact reason you're demonstrating right now. Simple question asked, simple answers given. Apparently that's not good enough for you.

Baldo did not answer the question...why were the people dis-armed.   We have the right to have and to carry,  leave it at that,  if you dont  want to carry...DONT! So leave us alone already !  DONT infringe.......!We dont infringe on your right to be defenseless if that is what you choose to do, it's everyones right to choose,..you can choose to be a victim or you can choose to not be a victim .  Choose.

Roadog

The anti-gun folk believe that EVERY gun has the ability to become a killing tool for every person in possession of one.  Remember, the country has moved from holding people personally responsible for their actions.

It's not only one side, the judge in the Affluenza trial is a Republican in Texas.  Go figure.

Baldo No pissing contest here , you asked a question and it was answered , but you still did not answer the question posed to you. Why do dictators dis-arm the people ?  Simple question with a simple answer.  Even the anti 2nd amendment folks understand the answer to this one, that is why you dont answer It is the same reason why Japan did not invade the American mainland the west coast in WW2.  The enemy did not fear the military for they bombed Pearl Harbor , but they did fear the armed American people. The actual translation is " there is a gun behind every blade of grass in America ". You say "I didnt say I wanted to dis-arm you" .  I will use a quote here myself, "BOO F--N HOO" .  Liberals and victimization just naturally go together.  "there is none so blind as he who will not see" ! Ride safe Baldo and enjoy the freedoms you have won with a gun.

The people of Virginia are on the right side of this issue, it's only the Gov and AG who did this, not the people.  Unfortunately, the free crap army got these idiots elected (by very small margins).... and they were only voting for free money.

Well, That's good news.  I've been following this.  Major pressure must have been brought, I would  never have expected our Gov. to cave on this.

One of the symbolic conditions:

State police must be present at all gun shows to administer background checks in private sales of guns on a voluntary basis.

Yeah, I can see people lining up for that.   Grin

Interestingly, the VA State Police are at most of the VA gun shows I've ever attended (usually two guys, always in uniform). It never occurred to me it was SOP.  They are not going around checking sales or paperwork, they are providing over-watch and security, dispute resolution, and always friendly).  In NoVA we are also aware that undercover ATF is very often present and actively trolling for regulation breakers.

Of course, even without this, anyone could always take their private sale to any private FFL holder at any show at anytime, if they want to (run the gun through the system to ensure it's not stolen or hot, or to check the buyer's right to buy).  Usually private seller's covering their asses.  So I guess the State Police background checks will be free (maybe?), the private FFL's aren't (usually $25-40).

Every gun show I've been to in the Atlanta area has a police office at the door checking firearms and putting a trigger lock - hefty tie wrap - so the firearm is temporarily disabled. He'll remove it as you leave the show.

There's another officer close by.

Its amazing that just having a man or woman put a badge on and all of a sudden all human passions, emotions, egos, greed, power control, etc., go away and they are perfect and are the only ones that should have guns. Unions are behind it to protect jobs and increase number of cops so to increase union dues. If more people carried in every state, there would be less need for the number of cops which would reduce property taxes and STOP this forward march towards a police state.

off duty cop he felt scared.

Former Atlanta Police Officer Reginald Fisher testified at his 2011 trial that he mistook the cellphone in Miller’s hand for a gun. Miller, a fast-food worker, was leaving a Mechanicsville apartment after helping his quadriplegic aunt. He refused to unlock his car door when confronted by Fisher, who was working an off-duty security job and had deemed Miller suspicious.
Fisher smashed out Miller’s car window with his baton, saw something in Miller’s hand and shot him.
A Fulton County jury acquitted Fisher, then 42, who argued that he was working in a high-crime neighborhood and feared for his life.
