This hasn't been the greatest 2 weeks of our life together - we get along great - it's more like first me then her, then both of us have bugs / viruses making us miserable. In spite of that, I'm not going to trade her off.

Curious about something!!! Honestly! how many of you guys went out and spent a good chunk of hard earned cash,(based on your budget, of course) and bought a rock for your lady. How many ladies have your done it for. What is the point of the rock? How many got on their knees and purposed?

It's not too bad... I buy wholesale!
Celebrated 31 years this past week, starting on the next 31, don't know if it's doable. (So glad my wife isn't on this board!) I truly think it is what you make it, kinda like a new bike always a work in progress.

hmm... I think $1500 is all, 1, I'm not sure there is any more point than it being a symbol of love, and no. Were you really curious and honest ?

Some interesting answers, I am impressed, pretty nice guys. I had a nephew awhile back, spring for his own wedding. He is just a regular working guy and it cost him over 30K for the wedding. I know women want to be treated like a princess, but I just didn't understand what motivates him to go to what I thought was extremes for her. An area I don't understand!

After 34 years, unlike the Valkyrie, even if I wanted I couldn't trade in the wife. Too much invested. Plus, she still puts up with, and at least pretends to understand my moods.
As far as the ring, in 1984, $1,500 still bought a fairly nice size. Enough to make her happy enough to make me happy.

I was dead poor when I asked her to marry me...working three jobs and putting myself through college. I bought our rings at a pawn shop. A matching engagement, and both the man's and woman's bands in a set.
Years later, when I'd made it far enough to do better I told her I'd replace them with something more expensive.
She said, "Nope."
She's a keeper.

Daniel,
Great story, well written as always... The message of the story... how it can be and ought to be... is very good too. My guess is you truly do have a keeper... and so does she, I reckon...

I spent a good chunk of cash, how much is nobody's business, but if that was the largest sacrifice on either person's part it would n't be the marriage, the partnership, it has been. The point of the rock is to express one's willingness to give. That willingness to give, and give much, is the foundation for a real marriage, a true partnership, and must continue even well beyond the wedding ceremony. I got down on one knee to propose. Interesting that you confused propose for purpose. Perhaps it was a Freudian slip. Good write, Daniel. It says a lot about what it is and what it should be.
