Well, I'm definitely not promoting someone name their firstborn kid Lucifer. I just thought it was fascinating that back in 1606, when those interpreters decided to substitute the Hebrew word for brightness with a similar Latin word, they had no concept that 400 years later I would have gotten it mixed up with The Devil. I discovered that they had never intended that.
As far as the Hebrew word satan, and the Arabic word shaitan, they have the same linguistic root that predates all three religions, and are used in the same way.
For example, just like we use the generic word "devil" in our language (the devil's in the details), but when we say "The Devil", everyone knows who we mean. The same for the generic Hebrew word satan (pronounced sah-tahn), but Ha Satan refers to the same entity. The Devil.
The American usage is different. When we say "Satan" pronounced "say-ten", we never use it generically. It's used as the name for the enemy of God.
But that's all just about semantics, and I enjoy discussing word origins.
More importantly, I think that the bible is worth reading in depth.
In my younger years, I read it a verse here and there, and got comfort, inspiration, and strength from those verses.
At some point, I decided to read the entire books and discovered that the message there was even deeper, more interesting and sometimes very different than what I got from smaller snipets.

Interesting thanks for sharing, did you get into a cult? The more you read the Bible the more you find things in it. Reading the whole Bible all the way through is really the best to find out who God really is and get the most out of it. Its a spiritual book translation and understanding come through the spirit otherwise its a history book. Thats why some read it and get nothing out of it or its boring and others it opens up new insights and understandings. |

May be I am out of line, I haven't read the bible, I am not ready. But I thought Lucifer was the fallen angel.
I say this with no disrespect to you two, but the point is not a PC competition, the way I see it is PC's objective is to confuses, cause chaos and cause doubt. The objective of my original info. of programs coming up, is to just make you aware of a possible pattern of influence. I may be wrong, but I just wanted people to judge for themselves, and not for the masses. Don't be on auto pilot, and do your own thinking.!!!! That's All!!

DM, what our friends were pointing out is that although within the English speaking world the name Lucifer is applied to the, as you call him, "Fallen Angel" it is not used as such on more than a single place in the Bible. That place, as our friend indicated , actually refers to an earthly king. Ther could be a good deal of discussion as to whether that reference also pointed to Satan himself.
I think it's fair to say that as you observed the originators of the television series expected the name to refer to the one we know as Satan, or the Devil.
I'm sorry to hear that you're not ready to read the Bible. It really doesn't take as much time as you might think. Some of my best reading has been when I really didn't think I was ready.

We all have weaknesses, even thought we try to fly straight and strong, but I feel if I have something to share and to try and look out for others. I may not be right, but I try and bring issues to peoples attention, things that may harm us. Let say I get a feeling or uncovered something, should I keep it to myself. I would rather be wrong, than see people harmed.

Its good to share things like this especially when you have them on your heart. Maybe its a good thing to open discussion on some topics but we are all big boys and girls and like you can decide for ourselves if its applicable.
I have read the Bible all the way through many times the first time I did I didn't get that much the second time a bit more. Now each chapter I go through I go wow I never saw that before and am amazed at the information in it. Its life changing and thought changing reading it from start to finish. Some people seem to speak their words have power the are not just words that is how the Bible is.

Yeah, I admit I didn't even discuss the original post. I got distracted by something I noticed in the bible some years ago.
As far as this TV show, I hadn't planned to watch it, but I did read the graphic novels by Neil Gaiman about 15 years ago. Personally, I was a little offended when I first saw it, but a friend told me that it was a fair look at how the devil is shown in the bible, as well as other works like the dead sea scrolls, Dante's inferno, etc... After reading it, I thought it was very thought provoking. It has some things I didn't like, but overall it was worth it.
Plus I thought about this: in the early days of the church, most art centered around religious themes. Painters, composers, writers, poets, they all discussed heaven and hell pretty freely. Michelangelo for example.
But, I doubt this TV show is on that same level. From the previews it looks pretty shallow, and they're probably just looking to start controversy.
Maybe I'll watch the first episode to make up my own mind.

I am going to try and explain my intentions to this thread. I try to encourage people to always think for themselves and the choices they make, are their own choices. We have had it always pounded in our head, by the media, that it should always end, riding in to the sunset and living happily ever after. The problem with that is, maybe that is why people turn to drugs and alcohol or even commit suicide, because they can’t face realities disappointments and unfairness. So when they are confronted with true reality, they try and run away from themselves. Now just keeping that in mind! Again! I am not a smart person; I just pay attention to details, and look at history as a good teacher, including our own personal history. TV is probably the quickest source of information, and maybe the deadliest. Now speaking as a Baby Boomer, most of us were taught that we were accountable for our actions, and understood that to be true. Problem is, most of us wanted to do, and give our children better things and a better life, so we taught!! Problem is we took the natural life lesson out of the equation, and our children learned bad habits, right from the start. So what does this have to do with the TV shows???
It’s about influence of people at their weak moments, “I don’t believe all that crap” “I am stronger than that” and so on. Now from our own experiences, have you ever got to over confident and got in to or almost got in to a serious or almost deadly situation? So maybe at that moment we think we are at our peak of our strength, that may be actually our weakest moment, putting our walls down and be most vulnerable to bad decisions. Sounds like hooey, Right!! The people that listened to, Hitler, Napoleon, Jimmy Jones, Martial Applewhite, and Charles Manson didn’t think so. Come on, that is in the past, it won’t happen again. You would think! When you watch TV especially talk shows, reality shows, and a form of voyeurism called Big Brother, Survivor and so on, and watch the people in the background, they are like sheep and puppets, doing what they are instructed how to respond, act and express their emotions on TV. It is all fake, it’s all trash and you believe it, just think about what you watch, you are being influence to believe something is true. If you are not going for it, there is allot that do. Its right in front of your face, you just have to pay attention. I will stop here for now.
I from time to time watch some of the garbage on TV, its like eating broken glass to me, but I try and see what is going on out there, you can't get the facts by listening to people like me, so you got to chew the glass.

Just FYI The first episode of Angel from Hell will be on CBS, on Jan. 7, 2016. And the first episode of Lucifer will be on FOX TV, on Jan 25,2016. I am not suggesting to watch it, just letting you know the dates, and maybe letting people aware of the backdoor influence.
Turns out you were wrong, she is a guardian angel and not Lucifer. You probably shouldn't watch it though, she drinks and has fun so if you watched it you might go to hell (judging by how much the show's name influenced you so badly). |

It would be silly of me to think different, I mean, we live in a perfect world, and the things that go on in our lives, we never get fooled or mislead by anyone. So when anyone tells us something and shows us something, it is always true. We have no wars, homicides, rapes, thefts, drive bys or anyone harmed or cheated, because someone said so. And Area 51 and Hanger 18 also does not exist. YOU are CORRECT I am WRONG!! |
