And just what exactly is the point if UNARMED police at an airport?

I found the problem!

Yep!  And when questioned, the guy who instituted the "rules" did exactly what he was supposed to due in case of a threat,.... he ran away.

  A lot of the tsa agents would not be able to run if they had to.
    Toss a donut tho and it would be like starving vultures fighting over a dead skunk. We fly a lot and most of the agents (?) are so overweight that I could out run them.
