Not gun stuff again. Sorry can't help it it is to good to be true so I have to pass it aong. This is not about whether to clean or not to clean or to deprime before cleaning it is strictly about what to use to clean cases. Some people have different products they use an I feel its vage. I myelf have used treated corncob media in a tumbler with what I call poor results. I got ahold of some Lyman turbo bright brass polish and it is a little thick so I put 6 drops (not globs) around the tumbler on top the corncob media an run the tumbler for 20/25 min. Before adding a bunch of brass. Tumbled the brass over night say 8 hrs. Result, yep polished. Ok I'll settle for that. But wait shoot I ran out of media. Ok let's do the pet store thing for media. Well this sucks cause you can't see in the bags. I found one I could lift the cover off the corn cob media an I could see a lot of crap from the cob so I got frustrated an went to sheels an gander mtn only to find walnut shells with red rouge in it and a I had my experience using rouge for polishing and heard it wasn't that great to use. Crap well before I order let's see Petco what they have. I have been given a very strong impression that walnut shells do not polish they only clean and if you want to polish you need corn cob media. Ok were at Petco an I run across a bag of walnut shells an you can see in the bag, looks good, its a kaytee product for cocateals and perrets. Hummm ok let's giv it a whirl and let's try the same method as I did with the corn cob media using 6 drops of the brass polish and same time. Results were astonishing. Man o man they were super bright. This is why I had to post this for you guys. Also when taping out the shells your fingers won't get so black. After cleaning I would still recommend putting the cases in dish soap to clean the polish off the cases but do not mix in with the dishes.

I use walnut shells from petco, its actually lizzard bedding. I add several drops of brasso polish and let run for 20 minutes then add my brass in over night. Comes out looking like new. I have also heard of guys using white rice and say it works just as good also.

I used shell and corncob in the past but now I tumble with stainless steel media. I deprime first and it gets inside the case and also the primer hole as clean as new. I have 2 of the inexpensive Harbor Freight tumblers and they work just fine. It works faster too.

I use a shaker tumbler with crushed walnut husks and a few drops of the specialized cleaner liquid added and have had excellent results myself...
Santa brought me a Hornady sonic cleaner for Christmas that I'm looking forward to trying out, but it was mainly acquired to clean suppressor baffles, but I'm sure I'll try it with brass at some point too...
My biggest complaint with the tumbler with the crushed walnut husks is no matter how hard I try to keep it contained, when I'm separating the brass back out, the media gets everywhere, and my reloading table isn't in the garage...

I've used vibratory tumblers with various media over the last 40 years or so, including the petco bedding, but I haven't used any of it after using a rotary tumbler with the stainless steel media. The brass comes out looking new inside and out including the primer pockets after 2-3 hours of tumbling and the media never has to be replaced. Its a little more of a mess since you're wet tumbling so you have to let the cases dry, but I can easily do 500 rounds of pistol brass in a couple of hours. I put a batch that looked clean and shiny after tumbling in walnut media in the vibratory tumbler and I ran it in the rotary tumbler for a half hour and the water came out black with all the remaining crap that the vibratory tumbler didn't get. The tumbler and media are more expensive to start with, but the only consumables are water and dishwashing soap. Never going back.

RP, good posting about that stainless. I seen a box for sale which was a pretty spendy penny. I was wondering how long it would last. I haven't heard of anyone using it. If I was to buy that stuff thou I would have to buy more guns an shoot more often.

Back when I shot on a regular bases (worked evenings, and shot days), I would use a Lee vibratory (small) tumbler. I only recall leaving it in for a few hours. I would start with Walnut media, dump it into a plastic strainer in a tub, shake, then dump the brass back into Corn cob media.
I never looked for a bright polish on my brass.
Always polished with the spent primer in the case.

Guess I've always heard my own drummer. I use a zip-up padded pillow case, throw my brass in it and throw it in the washer with a couple of shop towels.

I have heard of this before but like serk I prefer to stay married my little frankford aresonal vibration tumbler does great with walnut media and brasso polish. I dont need the high shine just clean cases. I have 200 rounds of 44 mag in it now. I'm going to look into the stainless media, looks to be the way to go.
