I recently had my mid year review at work and while the new boss is happy with my performance, he absolutely FREAKED when he saw that I have 12 weeks of vacation time built up.  I'm being told that I have to burn some of this time, so...in addition to a few trips with Mrs. Alien, it looks like I'll be making it to Inzane this summer.  I think it will be interesting to meet y'all in person.  Prior to leaving, I'll need to address a few PM issues on the Mothership and since the time for new tires is at hand, I think I'll finally go Darkside.

Ride Safe,

Well, at least you're already on earth, so the trip is doable.  Would be worse if coming from Uranus. Grin

Looking forward to meeting you.

Glad your gonna make one. With that kind of time built up you should have made some others. It is hard to express what folks are missing by finding an excuse not to come to Inzane. I have met so many GOOD folks through Inzane that I would have otherwise never run into. I hope that you will find it as gratifying as I do.  cooldude

Am surprised your employer allows 12 weeks of banked timed vacation to carry over from year to year.  A lot of employers are going to a select few weeks of banked time (vacation) to carry over from year to year and if you don't use it, you loose it, either get paid out for it or worse, just loose your vacation time and not get paid out for it.

The problem in some companies in certain positions is if you don't show up for work near daily and don't have adequate or NO backup to do your job,  your company would go belly up and be gone for good.

My wife is sort of in that scenario with NO backup really and if money doesn't get transferred properly daily,  stiff penalties exist causing even more financial hardship.  She takes the company laptop home daily if off work to do wire transfers, etc. since NOT really on vacation now is it??  They claim being EXEMPT/Salaried not getting overtime pay getting a 5K pay raise for being Exempt makes up for all the 10+ hours days she puts in at work weekly, but it doesn't even come close, should be more like 20K pay increase.

I'm exempt too.  No overtime but my company makes up for it by letting us earn extra vacation time for overtime hours worked.  Our vacation cap is 200 hours but I work a LOT and have 362 hours banked.  I can use it or loose it but the only way to get paid out for it is to quit.

My job is disaster relief, so I work my normal 9-5 Monday-Friday plus on call shifts almost every night and every weekend.  It adds up.

We Americans are the only people in the world
that have to be told to take time off.
When I retired I had 6 weeks vacation that
had to be paid to me and 3 weeks of that was carry over.
Now that I am retired everyday is Saturday and every
night is Friday night.
I will have to say can,t wait till my honey retires and she
can do something that feeds her heart not just her stomach .

I still don't feel it is right for an employer to say you MUST use up say 1-3 weeks of vacation and not be able to carry it all over to the next year and you will just loose it UNPAID at the end of the year.   If that is the case, the boss needs to be able to COVER for their employees somehow, even iffy at best, which is NOT the case in some instances since NO ONE left to do the job that HAS TO BE DONE daily or else face stiff penalties or hardships for the company.
