hey all
im thinking of getting a new 1800 valk
my question is about a rear platform that goes where the trailer hitch would go
ive seen them around I just don't know much about them
you guys { and girls } would be the ones to ask
assuming my arm gets better an 1800 is my next move

I think it would be 100 times easier to adapt some hitch to the Valkyrie... or get a f6b or something... people tried for years to strip down a Goldwing, but it took Honda to do it... the subframe is a big part of that... -Mike

I would say to inquire where a typical trailer hitch interfaces to the typical non-Goldwing bike, and start from there. The parts diagram for the 1800/Valk shows a 'normal', standard bike-style subframe (short, just enough to support the passenger seat and about 1/2 of the fender) and if the trailer hitch can deal with that, you're set. A look at other hitches available, such at http://www.uni-go.com/products.php?cat=19gives us a peek at their design; if the subframe does not come down low enough they then create arms to reach up for support. It is reasonable to assume that the Valk can be make to carry a hitch, however you may have to have one custom designed or modified to fit.

Not sure what you can do about a hitch on an 1800 Valk but when you get that figured out, we use this Kury..... It measures jus' slightly larger than the Rivco & their powder coat is alot better than their chrome. FYI, that link posted above for the Rivco hitch rack mount can not be used to pull a trailer. http://wingstuff.com/products/20314-universal-mounting-trailer-hitch-rack

For the 1800 Wing you mean? The Bushtec! I bought & installed a Rivco full trailer hitch to save some weight & it preforms flawless but........ if I had a second chance at it I'd buy the Bushtec in a heartbeat. I'm not 100% confident in the Rivco it being all aluminum, required cutting hole in rear fender to install, aluminum ball wears very quickly, & set screws to tighten draw bar (so it doesn't sway) are a pain to get to (so much so that mine's never been removed). The weight savings wasn't worth it IMHO. The Bushtec also has a slightly better frame mount & is a true standard receiver system. http://store.bushtec.com/Honda-Motorcycle-Hitches-from-Bushtec-s/23.htm I'd get the one with the mud flap to help avoid rock chips in the trailer paint but it says the mud flaps are unavailable at this time.

I'm not sure if anyone's makin' 'em for the 1800 Valk yet. The rear fender design being so different than the Wing don't know if one for the Wing will mount up. (Pretty sure it wouldn't look quite right even if it did.) The reason the Rivco rack mount system... http://rivcoproducts.com/shop-by-motorcycle/honda/honda-gl1800-goldwing/cooler-rack-mounting-system-for-the-honda-gl1800-gold-wings.html?___SID=U is unsuitable for hauling a trailer is it only attaches to the Wing saddlebag sub-frame (not the actual bike frame) & I'm not sure if you even have those attachment points on the new Valk. Not a whole lot of aftermarket accessories available for the new 1800 Valk yet. The stripped down style required a pretty radical redesign, at least for all the body work. That being the case, & especially with time on your hands so to speak (hope you're mending well Bro!) I'd be hounding Bushtec/HitchDoc/Rivco/etc... by phone & email to see what they might have, or might be able to come up with, to suit your needs. Somebody's gonna fill the niche sooner or later, & I can't think of anybody better to road test a new design than you Bro! Volunteer your services, might even get sum stuff fo' free

I really just need a way to take one additional small duffel when we travel and that rack just might be the ticket and I wouldn't need a hitch OR trailer. Hmm...wonder if they make them in Black, I will have to check. Thanks again Bro!

If you're talkin' about the Rivco link above I pulled that directly from your post. Doesn't require a full hitch but does require the sub-frame mount... Much easier install than full hitch (& considerably cheaper).
 http://rivcoproducts.com/all-aluminum-hidden-receiver-type-hitch-for-2012-newer-hondar-gl1800-gold-wing.html
Since I scored our Rivco full hitch used at less than half price & my Son was willing to lend a hand with the install, well that was a no brainer. (Not really that tough, jus' a three handed kinda job.) Then when we started wanting just a "day ride" kinda rack so we didn't hafta pull the trailer every time, I went with the Kury rack because it's 12"x18" instead of Rivcos 11"x16" & fit our day cooler and old T-bag. Jus' removed the Rivco tow ball & installed the Kury bracket, reinstalled tow ball. Works same as the Rivco one, still gotta have sub-frame mount or full hitch.
Kury...

Rivco...

Coleman Party Stacker coolers.... (cheap but effective & fit Kury rack exactly) with this on top.... http://www.lowes.com/pd_297993-82210-465133005___?productId=3097405&pl=1&Ntt=portable+gas+grills both of which fit in one of these.... (to keep the road grime out) http://www.amazon.com/Rothco-Canvas-Parachute-Cargo-Black/dp/B000BFHEAI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1452548323&sr=8-1&keywords=rothco+parachutemakes for some excellent "gone to the mountains/lake swimming" adventures for 2 (Yes, I am certain I jus' sealed my own fate )For weekenders, this for extra storage (from my old CB750 days)....... also fits perfect, but does block license plate if you use top case. Breaks down into 4 pieces, side bags have backpack straps. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MOTORCYCLE-SISSY-T-BAR-BAGS-BAG-TRAVEL-LUGGAGE-ALL-NEW-/290578482844All-n-all a very versatile set up for us, we're pretty pleased with it....... Enjoy that new ride Bro, that's what it's all about!!
