Ride Safe, Be Kind

Earth

« on: January 12, 2016, 06:46:07 AM »

Good morning All,

The time has come for a new helmet.  In the past I've always just bought a black Shoei full face because one of them saved my life once and that kind of thing breeds loyalty.  However, since I plan on attending INZANE this year and since y'all decided to move it all the way to WV, I would like to make a few upgrades (a modular helmet with music capability).  I appreciate any feedback you might have on what has or hasn't worked for you.  My needs are as follows:

1.  First and foremost, the helmet must be good at it's primary job of protecting me.
2.  Modular is preferred
3.  Good ventilation is a must
4.  Good sound quality is important.
5.  Bluetooth is preferred, I don't like cords and I don't have an Interstate, so I don't need to plug into the bike.

I've seen some add on Bluetooth units, some "Bluetooth ready" helmets and some helmets with the Bluetooth unit built in.  What say you?

Any opinions are appreciated.

Ride Safe,

Alien

Not trying to discourage you, I have always had a concern with Bluetooth. That is being active unit near my head for long periods of time. Would that be a health issue in long term?

I have wondered the same thing, especially with the ones people walk around with in their ears all day.  However, with most Helmet units being mounted on the outside of the shell and me only using it on long rides (15 days per year or so) I feel that the risk is minimal for my application.

I still haven't decided what to go with (Or just stick with my current setup a little longer) but I got a lot of good feedback and ideas on this topic in this thread:
