It's hard to tell the YOUNGER generation to expect the unexpected.
I bark at my kids all the time going to school to DRESS WARM when -5 to 10 degrees outside since there is always the 'what if' factor to consider. For example, what if the key to the house or garage door remote does NOT let them into the house after school? Then what, when they go to school with nothing but a sweatshirt (no winter coat) on expecting just to get in the house easy enough. What if he/she slips and falls down cannot move by themselves with NO one around to get out of the cold?? Happens more than one would think.
Kids (or the younger generation) just do not listen to reason sometimes. I can be stubborn (or stupid) as well though going outside by myself a few times when cold out say just to burn papers or get the mail with nothing on but my tennis shoes with no coat on when cold out just expecting to get inside quickly. Even wearing my winter coat when below zero, I still don't routinely wear gloves or a winter hat nor carry them with me in my vehicle. I guess us older generations don't do the right thing either by dressing warm in below zero temps.

In this season-Winter-I dress comfortable to me keeping the inside of my cage warm. THAT being said I do carry enough warmer clothes and head and hand protection that should I need to hoof it I should not die hoofing it or waiting for the wrecker. Also have water and energy bars handy. Learned a few things while living in the North county and driving truck. That old tried and true Boy Scout motto applies here-Be and Stay Prepared.
RIDE SAFE.
