There's still hope. They're Marines, not sheep...

What he said!

While I don't like it, the Marines are a disciplined military unit, they follow orders.    Blame those elected leaders who put such policies in place if you have a problem with it.

You do realize that the article to which you linked was strictly based upon what an 18 year old "said" with no confirmation or denial by the USMC (USMC could not be reached for comment???).  Even if it occurred it could be the response of a single U.S. Marine recruiter's interpretation and not necessarily the policy of the Corps.  The article doesn't bother to mention much about the recruiter such as where he's from or his racial makeup.

The latter two links do give some comment from the Corps and it appears that the recruiter in question was in error on the policy.  There is a review/waiver policy that can be used.  One of the links also states that the enlistee signed an agreement to not get any tattoos prior to enlistment, which he violated.   I think the Corp would be more concerned about that.

Sorry Carl, I don't know what happened in that post.  When I typed it, it was capitalized and "Corps", I even scrolled up to your previous post to verify it was accurate.  I did not review it after I clicked post.

Even though I was a Army, I have always had the utmost respect for the Corps and all branches of the service.

Please accept my sincere apology.

Apology accepted.  The Rogues are alright in my eyes.   cooldude

BTW in regard to the OP it seems the young man signed an agreement and then decided to test whether he would have to live up to it or perhaps he could get out of his commitment and make it look like someone else's fault.

I was in basic in 1966. When we got our first weekend pass , we were given a set of do not do items. D O  N O T get a tattoo with any unit reference on it. I got a bluebird of happiness. On Monday , at formation , "all the new tattoo's fall in over here".  If we later find you have a tattoo you did not disclose , you will be courtmarshalled. I was second in line and passed. A couple behind me were pulled out. They had the 101st Air Borne tattooed on them. They were sent to sick bay and had them scrubbed off with an abrasive and lye soap. We have no sympathy for you as you were told the parameters.Several returned for several treatments.
Luckily , mine was OK. I still have the faded out tattoo.

Damn that hurts just thinking about it. I think I was the sailor in the Navy that never got one. Seems like if the didn't get one after basic training they ALL got one over in Subic.
