I have a story almost identical to yours, including the same lies. Jake had been my constant companion for over 19 years.  That was 3 years ago and it still hurts to think about it. I heard somewhere once that the unconditional love shown to us by our pets is a small example of that same love we get from the Lord.
I hope its not asking too much that I get to see him again someday. Damn gnats.

Sorry for your loss bro.

Q (the top one) went first, cancer...

Barney went a year or so later, just finally wore out. They came with the property,
so I guess they were "rescue cats"... Even if I didn't work on the house, I came out
every day after work to give them some food. I cried like a baby with Barney in my
lap as he breathed his last at the Vet's office...

I've lost a few cats, and I bawled each time.  I love pets, but I'm partial to felines.  Pierre was a handsome dude.  Sorry for your loss.

Dogs and cats are my favorites, all though I like all animals.   Condolences Daniel.

My heart is with you, Daniel.  You reminded me that it's been ten years now.  I'd lost track that it's been that long.  I swore I'd never have another cat because it hurt so much but, like you, I'm apparently given to the occasional fabrication to myself.

It's good to have them near while they're with us.

For what it's worth, Michael, I cried like a little girl and I'm just about as tough as they come.

Got a pumpkin colored tiger stripe for my then very youngest daughter while we were still living in Colorado. Almost didn't make the move with us to Missouri. THAT'S another story. I'd get home and after everybody went to bed it was me and the old man or as my youngest called him-Go Cat. Called one day from the road and I knew something was wrong. Candy-my wife at the time-informed me she went out to let him in and she noticed he wasn't moving. Basically came home to die. Big bad ass truck driver motorcycle rider ended up cryin over a cat. Gnats around my computer as I relate this story. Much like you Carl been a day or three since I thought about Go Cat. Lost too many pets and had to put down a few over he years. Haven't bothered to get another one as I REALLY do not want to go thru the pain of losing a good friend-again. RIDE SAFE.

Sorry Daniel!  I think for all of us that have owned animals we have had the same story. I love dogs! I lost my two beagles within 6 months of each other so my rabbit hunting has come to an end. Petey, was the best ever. He found me, I didn't find him. He was hurt and walked or hobbled into my pole barn while I was working on my bike.

It was Thanksgiving and I had to go to my brothers so my wife and I just left. She said what about the dog? I told her he would be gone when we got back, and he was. Before bed I was taking the garbage out and there he was lying on the steps. It was starting to sleet so guess what, I brought him in on the porch. I told my wife I would let  him out in the morning. He was bleeding on his right rear hip from a small hole. I had an old afghan and I laid it on the porch, (first mistake) went to the store and bought a small bag of dog food, ( second mistake) I gave  hime some water. (third and final mistake) I took him to the vet the next morning, best thing I ever did! The hole in his hip was where someone had shot him with a pellet gun. The pellet was removed and he never left until I had him put down a couple of years ago and after a 12 year stay. It tore my heart out.  Cry

Best buddy I have ever had. I could see the love in his eyes every day. I returned the same. I can't have another dog. I guess I'm a sissy I can't do it again. So, I'm dogless but I miss Petey every day and I don't think that will ever leave. Some would say he was just a dog. Yes, but he was my dog. Brings tears to my eyes to just tell this much.

Saddest part of animal friends. I feel for you big time.

The kid's boxer brought my newest addition. Ensign. He's the newest addition to the crew.
The Vet said he's 2 mos. old. I had been wanting another cat, (WHY-O-WHY).
He, what passes for cat, loves me and Tammy is happy.
We live in the desert and fishing is two hours away.
I rigged a hookless lure to the pole and cast into the bedroom from the couch. He's already got the sound of lure hitting carpet down and attacks it. Then I reel him in.
