My tach is not working.  Is there an easy way to tell if it is the tach itself or the cable?  I have not pulled it yet (rain rain go away)
Thanks

The tach is electric.  That should rule out the "cable".   :)

Incidentally, if you're not riding an Interstate, a failing tach can be the first sign of a larger electrical problem.

Scott from FL, now in Maine

Check the battery ground to the engine and battery. Friends bike had electrical problems that started the same way, was a simple fix on his. GL   8)

I would check the fuse. I think the tach and tailight fuse are the same, with the tach failure serving as a warning system.

Honda did a wonderful thing. They wired the tach ground through the rear taillight. If the filament burns out the tach doesn't register. CHECK YOUR TAIL LIGHT.

I will hopefully be able to check deeper this afternoon (weather permitting) I know the tail light works, and the tach itself has some dents in the bezzle.  Guess it has taken some damage at some point in time.
Thanks

On my tourer the tach quit once. Inside the headlight is a plug.   I believe it is a yellow wire anyway mine came unplugged. Plugged it back together and everything worked again.

Cool
I will check that out, as soon as I get an afternoon without rain.
That is my luck, I finally buy a bike and it rains EVERY afternoon since then
Oh well
Thanks
