Got this from a buddy of mine, pretty cool cooldude

As you know the budget cuts have eliminated the military flyovers at large events. Well, there's a group of Radio Control guys in Kansas City who do some formation flying with their own planes and decided they'd volunteer to pick up the slack.  They invited a couple of other groups to join them and before they knew it they had 48 guys with their homemade RC airplanes signing up to join in.   If they had more time, they probably would have gotten an even larger group as  people kept joining and a 49th was added near the event. One additional  feature of the flyover was the use of pink smoke for cancer awareness. The folks from the Guinness Book were there and are expected to confirm it as the largest formation flight ever.  And to top it off the crowd later set  the record for the loudest > gathering at a football stadium. Be sure your speakers are turned up. Best if watched on 'full  screen'.

Very cool, but they're not RC planes, they're real planes.

Another angle:

And a VERY cool IMHO view from one of the planes:

I remember that flyover. I think my son was at the game. However it was not radio control aircraft. They were home built aircraft. Real planes. Kind of what you would find over in Oshkosh at the experimental air show.

Hey!  Radio control aircraft models are real planes. Full scale aircraft are the ones flying over the stadium.

Cool flyover, but as Moonshot stated, not RC planes.

I'm sure there are other RC hobbyists in the group that would concur.  You have to be able to see the plane to fly it, and those were clearly at an altitude that would make flying a tight formation in such close proximity to other model aircraft impossible.  Also, they have to take off from somewhere and land back at the same location, which would not be possible in an urban environment like was shown.  Lots of liability issues also.

I've been involved in quite a few 'fly-bys', low passes and formation flying  over the years. I also used to build/fly RCs.

I can't imagine that many RCs doing that.  I too think there is a human in each of those airplanes.

I can understand why/how someone could confuse the issue and terminology.

Thanks for posting that. very cool.    cooldude

Did some of that kind of flying in helicopters back in the day.    While I did enjoy the flight time, takes a lot of practice to be good, safe and look good at it in a helicopter.   Might be just as tough in a fixed wing, not sure.   Haven't flown tight formation in something that can't hover.   Wink
