Newton initially attended the University of Florida, where he was a member of the Florida Gators football team in 2007 and 2008. As a freshman in 2007, Newton beat out fellow freshman quarterback John Brantley as the back-up for eventual Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow. He played in five games, passing for 40 yards on 5-of-10 and rushing 16 times for 103 yards and three touchdowns.[12] In 2008, during his sophomore season, Newton played in the season opener against Hawaii but suffered an ankle injury and took a medical redshirt season.[13] On November 21, 2008, Newton was arrested for receiving stolen property after purchasing a stolen laptop computer from another University of Florida student. He was subsequently suspended from the team after the laptop was found to be in his possession.[14] Campus police "tracked the stolen laptop to the athlete...Newton tossed the computer out his dorm window in a humorously ill-advised attempt to hide it from cops."[15] All charges against Newton were dropped after he completed a court-approved pre-trial diversion program. "I believe that a person should not be thought of as a bad person because of some senseless mistake that they made," said Newton in 2010. "I think every person should have a second chance. If they blow that second chance, so be it for them."[16] Newton announced his intention to transfer from Florida three days before the Gators' national championship win over Oklahoma.

Cam is a tremendous athlete. These spread, running quarterbacks have not fared very well in the NFL as witnessed by Pryor, Vince Young, RGIII, and others. Steve Young had a hall of fame career and Colin Kapernick has been good and bad, but Newton is the real deal and has these Panthers flying high and I predict that will continue. Two years ago I would have given Peyton Manning a great chance with this defense, but his arm strength is no more and Denver has a poor run game to make up for it. Denver defense may keep them in the game for a while, but I look for a Carolina route. Hope I am wrong. Would love to see Peyton go out with another superbowl win. Chuck

I agree with your comments entirely. I think the Panthers will win, but would like to see manning go out with a win. I doubt being 40 soon he will come back next season, especially if he wins it all. Denvers defense will have to be TOP notch to win this game and can see them win it with their defense, but the odds are in the Panthers favor since the Panthers also have a very good defense. A mobile QB helps though and Manning is not although he does show signs of life when needed. I don't think his arm is that bad off, he can still fling it pretty good, or should I say good enough to win. You gotta admit though the DAB he does is pretty cool giving the football to the young kids in the stands which is pretty cool something the kids will NEVER forget the rest of their lives and if in a superbowl no less, will be a very valuable commodity for sure. Just glad the Patriots and Seahawks are not there again, but still wish the Packers would have beat Arizona which they could have done but guessing would still have lost to Carolina yet again.

Do not know what a DAB is however I think him and other Panthers giving the touchdown football to kids is the best thing I have ever seen for a celebration. What a PR plus this is and I think it may catch on to all the other teams next year. Will see. I always liked what Barry Sanders use to do - just hand it to the Ref. and some team, I think the Packers and others jumping up into the stands to mingle with the fans was pretty good also.

That's just too damn cold I'm pretty sure the record here is -18 back in the late 80's .... I'm hoping my new painted saddlebags look good and I can get out tomorrow for a ride I might even throw a toothbrush and a change of drawers in the saddlebag and do a overnight " somewhere " .....To stay on topic ... GO BRONCOS

The Broncos were written off of every game this year since Manning went down...and they found a way to win most of them, even with their second-string quarterback. Wade Phillips has his defense finely tuned for the opposition that they've faced weekly; he has a very good defensive mind. Don't count them out just yet. IF (a big if) they can contain Newton to the pocket with a good outside-inside pass rush, they stand a good chance of winning. They beat New England (Tom Brady) TWICE this year, and a couple other very good teams; with defense dominating. Yeah, yeah, Manning's old, can't run, doesn't have the arm he used to, but he can rally an under performing team JUST enough to get a win these days. Carolina is the best team in the NFL this year, but the best team doesn't always win the Super Bowl on that one day, one game championship (it should be best of three, in my opinion). Last chance for a great professional owner to go out on top (Pat Bowlen), who has terminal Alzheimers; the teams could send him off with one final salute. I've learned after 40 years to never bet cash money on the outcome of a Denver Broncos game, but I'll pick our Donkeys by less than three to win it all in another nail-biter. Keep the defibrillator charged and at the ready!

No doubt Newton is one heck of an athlete. Credit given where I believe it's due but, he's also a show boat and cocky as hell which, I believe is the reason he's not well liked. Versus the "sheriff" who is a class act whether winning or losing. I'm not a Broncos fan but, I am a Manning fan. Hope he goes out as a winner.
