Two zip-splats were side by side at the light in front of me about two cars. The lead vehicle on the other side of the intersection facing us was a Winter Park squad car. The light changed and one of the zips gunned it and popped the clutch, doing a wheelie all the way through the intersection, his buddy just sat there shaking his head. He then started to move off normally. The cop, however, hit the lights before "gunner" got through the intersection so everyone just waited while he did a "U" turn. You know how that turned out for our ignorant friend. I swear, if brains were lard, he wouldn't have enough to grease a very big pan. Some people are really dumb, but that kid was exceptional.

Just passing on another day's events in the life of yours truly.  Wink

I was stupider when I was young, even did a wheelie at an intersection when there
was a cop there.

Were some of y'all smart when you were young or something?

why do the cops and the law think that someone doing a wheelie is careless and unsafe?
IMHO anyone who can do great long wheelies has above average riding skills and actually a more safe rider than most.
its the old paradigm again.

I used to show off to girls doing wheelies down our subdivision street when I was young. One time a cop happened to be there. I was lucky though, he just told me to knock it off. I did eventually quit showing off after going over backwards a couple times and having to fix my bike. I wish I could say it was the dumbest thing I did when I was young. But alas there were many more instances.

When I was young and on a mini-bike, I would just give the girls rides. I found out early in life that it was nice having a girl sitting behind with her arms around me. It was even nicer if I sat her in front of me and I had my arms around her, she had to put to hands on the handlebars, or, better yet, on my legs. They may not have thought much about doing that, but, I sure did.  Wink

I agree, but like many things in life there's a time and place for everything. The intersection of two six-lane highways during rush hour isn't one of them. That's when common sense should come into play along with skill.  cooldude

agree not the time nor place.

stupidest thing I ever seen was a guy on a crotch rocket coming at me on a straight, luckily smooth,  main hwy. NOT sitting on his seat but his body off the bike entirely with his feet skidding with metal plates underneath throwing sparks with ONLY his hands on the handlebars doing guessing 60 mph coming right at me doing that for as long as I saw him in my rearview mirror guessing at least 1/4 mile long.

I didn't see the purpose of doing that, but is just as bad as doing a wheelie in a crowded intersection.

I think we all, or most of us,  have done 100 mph (or more)  in a vehicle (or cycle) at one time in our lives.  Is that smart as well??? Probably not.

Carl, you aren't alone my friend.  Wink My neighbor used to kid me, telling me I had the only engine powered unicyle with two wheels that he'd ever seen. Often following with something like "the front tire on John's bike has half the mileage of the back tire and he replaced them both at the same time."

Agree there is time and place for stuff like that. Last year a kid on a sport bike did a wheelie down State street in Ft Wayne. State street is a fairly busy road with lots of bussineses along it. Needless to say he failed to see the truck in front of him slowing to turn into a parking lot and slammed into it with his wheel in the air. No helmet or gear. He was killed.

I did alot of dumb stuff when I was a kid but never wheelies, not intentionaly anyway. I did top my Pontiac out more than once but never in town or in traffic...

I once saw a guy in nothing but a gorilla mask and underwear ride a wheelie through an intersection right in front of a cop who was next to me at light. The cop just shook his head and sat there.

I can understand that.  You bring a guy with nothing on but a gorilla mask and underwear into the station, you never hear the end of it.

I stopped at 110. That was plenty fast for me.....Plus I started to think about how big the ticket would be...

115 for me and I haven't done it in years. I'm fine at 95 but crap starts to happen too fast past that.  Smiley
