Both of my Valkyrie I used to have about $400 some up and down a year full coverage and $100 deductible for many years.
Three years ago they raise $250 deductible? I don't know why but fine with me then last year they increase about little over $900 for a year on both Valk? I was like WTF? I got no fault accident and no tickets since 1993 and good clean record. That was with AAA under progressive so I check progressive directly and got $677 I said ok better than $900 then this year I got renewal they want $891 WTF?  We have been with progressive for over 30 years plus 7 vehicles and home owner and what's are they doing to us? My wife got no fault accident or tickets as well... I checked with Geico they quote me for $450 on both Valk and a year same policy I currently had. I told progressive about it and they asked me what's your grade level? WTF? So I said grad high school and attend to college and they dropped $3 bucks I said oh great deal and I'm out hunting for new insurance. I told them let me know if they can lower more before I find other insurance in few days... So far no respond from progressive... So much for 30 years with Progressive insurance so middle finger at progressive insurance for not being loyal....

They've got to drum up enough dough to pay Flo's wages.   coolsmiley

I've been happy with State Farm.  As of a year or two ago, they cover roadside assistance if you carry comprehensive.

It's called capitalism.  It exists in every large corporation in every arena of American business.  It's about profits for the board, the stockholders, the bankers, and the government (taxes).  It's about gathering every dollar they can without having to deliver anything in the product or of ethical behavior towards the public.  Simply put, they don't care about you...or me...or all of us...or how good a boy you've been all these years.  Who do you think will take on the big insurance companies if elected: Donald Douche or Bolshevik Bernie? Grin
Would you have bought it if it had been named: "Liberal Insurance"? ???

Strongly biased opinion to follow: The insurance scam, one of the great scams of history,  (along with "The [insert] Church"), pay up or else.

I've used Allstate for the past 5 years and their rates seem to be holding up well.

Insurance companies are nobody's friend but their own.  Independent insurance agents may actually have some customer loyalty (over time), but don't count on it.

It's buyer beware and cover your (own) ass.

I think to some extent all companies try to raise rates over time, regardless of a clean record and no claims.  Sometimes it's justified, sometimes it's just about profit.  When it happens, we should shop around; many companies will start you low just to set the hook, then raise over time, so you go shopping again.  A willingness to shop around is your best defense against abuse.

All insurance companies are not equal in how they deal with their insureds (fair vs stingy v downright wrongful denial of claims), and consistent fair dealing is worth a bit higher premiums IMHO.

And because insurance is regulated at the State level everywhere, you cannot really seek opinions about name brand companies nationwide (like on this forum), because the same company may be one of the best in some states, and not so good in other states.

I am not a fan of insurance.  It is very close to legal gambling.  You are wagering you will screw up or be screwed by others, and always hope you lose the bet.  It is one of the greatest lawful Rackets ever devised by man (even enforced by the government and mortgage companies/banks).

I insure vehicles and a house (not my life), and have not had a single claim since around 1972.  And at 18, I knew they screwed me out of half the value of my stolen vehicle, but was powerless to do anything about it but complain (other than go to a different company).

Shop around, use due diligence,  make sure you are comparing identical coverages (apples vs apples, not apples vs oranges), only buy the insurance you need, bend over and let the fun begin.   crazy2

On the other hand, the day my mom totaled a band new Chrysler (our first luxury car) driving it home from the dealership, and dad got another brand new one, he was very happy with his insurance that day.

I had a accident 2014 in fall with a business truck Wendy's parking lot, Pendelton, IN.  I broke a tailight lens cover to a Silverado.  I offered victim cash but he wanted accident report because some do gooder going by said call the cops.
Progessive said we have you covered for the 50 to 100 dollars.  They took care of it.  This spring my new policy came in and doubled from 3500 to 7000 dollars.  Immediately wrote them nasty letter and told them to pound sand.  Knew right away they were into paying massive amounts of advertising dollars on TV and radio to just continually bringing in new customers as their clients that has accidents would be priced out of them.  Found a new agency that came in at 2900 dollars, far less than the original 3500, and they are in my county.

Have had great luck with State Farm on all other vehicles, motorcycles, boats, snow mobiles, and house for 20 years.

I've been with Markel for quite a few years now, maybe ten or more. With $100 ded. and an extra $5k for add-ons, full coverage when I renewed in January was $139. Actually my deductible is almost zero now, a while back they started to drop it a little each year that you didn't have a claim.

It's Markel American Insurance Company, Glen Allen, VA. I deal with them through Markel Service Inc., PO Box 906, Pewaukee, WI 53072-0906. If you want to check the rates, call 800-236-2453.

This is for my bike only, not the house or car. I have AAA for that and think I might be looking elsewhere in August.

Like Jess said don't hesitate to shop around.

I've been with Geico for years.

We recently bought a new car and Telco tried to screw me on the rate.

USAA beat them big time on the quote.

USAA is now my new insurance company.

go elsewhere like I have had to do WAY, WAY, WAY too many times the past 10 years.

Most recently,  had Allstate a few years ago until a huge price increase, no fault of my own.

then,  had liberty mutual for 1 year price lock and once renewal came,  21% increase, no fault of my own.

6 months into Geico now,  11% price increase, thru no fault of my own.

The whole insurance industry are crooks.  I even filed an appeal with WI insurance commission office with no luck there either stating Geico's 11% price increase was supposedly approved/justified.

Keep hunting around as I will since I now read that Warren Buffet,  head honcho at Geico,  states WI insurance rates will be going up due to WAY too many WI deaths on the road.  If that happens going up more than 3% come next renewal 6 months from now,  switching yet again.

I do NOT trust NOT ONE insurance company for keeping rates reasonable.

I have wasted days upon days calling around getting insurance quotes, sucks, but has to be done.

If one insurance company would just do the right thing and keep rates the same or go up ONLY 3% or less per next renewal,  I would be a lifer with them.  Have NOT found that in past 10 years with any insurance company having to switch now about 6 times in past 10 years.    NOT loyal to me, NOT going to be loyal to them EVER.   tickedoff tickedoff

Exactly, that's why I have USAA for everything BUT my bike; that's Geico.   cooldude

I have posted here many times about my disdain for Progressive.

Even their name sucks (though accurate for their large political contributions).

Last time I checked State Farm doesn't carry any medical on their motorcycle policy. I pay them over 8k/ year for my life, home, business but my motorcycles are with progressive. I did notice an increase with progressive last year but have not received the bill for this year.

Hairy, if I had that much coverage with SF (or anyone), I'd sure give them a call to see what bike coverage would be.  There's virtually always a multi vehicle discount.  If you have other good medical, do you need it on the bike policy too?

Just sayin'.

Insurance is a business.  Like any business their success is based upon minimizing expenses which involves planning to make income cover outlay and a reasonable profit.  The companies have no money excepting what is paid by the customer.  The complicating factor is that the company must predict ahead of time what they believe payout will be.  Motorcycle expenses for insurance companies appear to be on the rise.

I have switched companies because the one I was with was raising my rates significantly.  I'm pretty sure that's not a permanent solution.  Likely the company to which I migrated will be raising my rates in the near future.

Sadly, the insurance company I just left paid out many tens of thousands of dollars on my behalf just 2.5 years ago.  Perhaps that's why they had to raise BF's rates.   Wink

I thought Progressive was always pretty good but my renewals seemed to go higher an I found out after the expiration date if I went online for a new quote the price would come back down.  After I got my 2014 subaru totaled last year I got damn poor service from Progressive. 1st I found out I didn't have the that coverage that would get me a car to get home on an finding one in Tahoe on a Sunday was a nightmare from hell so that was a 1000 out of my pocket till I could get that reimbursed. Then Progressive tried to f me in thy arsh , and I had to ware armor plating an do serious battle with them to pay me what my car was worth and I won but it was surely a battle to witness. Then they said they could get me reimbursed for the medical bills but I would have to get pain & suffering from the other insurance on my own so I thought screw them because the med bills were the easy part an I took care of it my self after the car was paid for.  I had to deal with Farmers on the car and got some runaround till I made a call an got a guy jacked up for not taking care of business and giving me a boguess supervisor name an ph.#.    I'm just finishing up with Farmers they seem to work kind of slow an the accident was August 9th.            So I dropped Progressive  and got state Farm in the rush of things an I'm not amused with them as they keep sending all kinds of crap in the mail and they threatened to raise the Insu. price on my 99 explorer because I I have bare minimum coverage because I wouldn't give them the odometer reading I figure they can go pound salt as it's a 2nd car and I drove it once since mid Nov.

So far, I've been happy with Progressive (only use them for the bikes, my home and car insurance won't do motorcycles).

Rates have been reasonable (not the lowest, but not overly high).  Service has been good.  They very quickly took care of the deer damage I encountered while on vacation (bike was only 1 month old!!!).

Having said that, I know they are there to make money... so Thank you for warning us!  I'll be checking my rates when I renew (will be in the next month) to see if they go up.  Fingers crossed.

Insurance Rates in any given state falls squarely on your Insurance Regulators for your state.   The one thing that would really help all of us in this Presidential Election is the guy who gets congress to allow interstate competition for ALL insurance, not just Medical.  The State regulators are just as crooked as the insurance companies themselves, many are elected officials of the State and therefore take campaign contributions from I'm sure are well meaning lobbyists.  All you can do in the mean time is keep shopping the insurance companies against each other every renewal which is what I do.  I don't trust my "Independent" insurance broker as far as I can throw him, they get commissions from the Insurance companies predicated on the amount of business they do with that company so they have a vested interested in steering their clients to one company or another.  Insurance is nothing more than a Racket fueled by the States.

Willopad,  Without capitalism you would not be able to shop around, If you are not happy buy somewhere else. If it weren't for capitalism the price would be fixed and determined by the government, and we have enough regulations keeping prices high now.

When you sell your car or house are you going to give me a good deal or are you going to get every penny you can.

It does not pay to be loyal to an insurance company.  It does not buy you anything, it doesn't mean squat to them, its just business.  Treat them the same way.  I'm only loyal until I can get a better rate.

well said.   cooldude

I'd like to find ONE insurance company for home/auto/cycle/scooter that is maybe not the cheapest around, but pretty close to the cheaperst overall in all 4 insured, but have not found that yet since if cars are cheaper,  the home is way high to insure or vice versa.  Cycle insurance I have found calling around is pretty reasonable whether with Geico, Allstate, Liberty Mutual, etc, etc.  at around 120 bucks full yearly coverage 100/300/100K but NO medical payments since when quoted medical payments of say 10K,  was like another 85 bucks added onto the 120 per year plus I have health insurance and as long as I do not take NON-family member passengers on my bike,  see no need for med pay.

Progressive has been good to me for the last 10 years . I only pay $90 a year on the valk for full coverage . My ducati is more at $200 and I can understand why they get stolen a lot and are expensive to repair or replace. I'm sure most of my good deal comes from my older age  and good driving record  I have farmers for the house and cars and they were double what progressive was.

Interesting, my Valk and a 2010 Triumph are with Progressive at nearly $900.00 a year for full coverage, no claims, perfect driving record with 42 years riding experience.  No rhyme or reason other than the States are different and regulators are different.  We need Interstate competition for Auto Insurance in the worst way to put a stop to this State by State pricing.

I shopped all the ins companies last renewal and Geico was higher than Progressive.  Will do it all again next renewal.

When talking insurance PLEASE list the amounts of cover you are paying for line by line.

It's one way to compare an apple with an orange.

States and Zip codes can also make a big difference.

Insurance companies like long term customers and find it easy to raise their rates knowing that the customer feels "loyal". The insurance company ISN'T.
