...said use packing tape to peel off the coatings on the tourer windshield BEFORE using whatever hoaky polishing compound???

THANKS!!!!!

brotha, I'm half way thru a bottle of plasticX with very little change..here..there...better..ish..but opaque in way too many spots, looks like hell and the rest of the bike looks so damn fine...
I got so pissed I cut 4" off the top, sanded it, kept the symmetry and shorted my shield to see OVER the nonsense- no budget money for windscreen this summer...front tire, the goings over, wheel bearings timing belt water pump just to get that out of the way and "know" where my ride is, eh?

anywho...while sitting there thinking..I remembered reading something from 2011 maybe? about someone used packing tape to yank the coating off (I thought no f'ing way, but I'm up against the wall here)
dam...took a few times to get the very distinctive "feel" for how to rub it in, how to yank it off (sorry..zero experience with waxing, but I'm sure its the same)
shields looks WAY better just removing the coating.
I'm sure its soft underneath, I'm sure its going to need new in a year...but 10 bucks I have a very clear usable screen.

whoever posted that, thanks cooldude (searched for 'tape' and got a thousand replies)

BEFORE (from the craigslist ad, but you can see how rough it was)

AFTER (that tape trick was amazing, I'd spent an hour or more polishing and polishing and getting NO where) crappy cell phone pic, in my garage, at night. I'm liking the bobbed screen, and the clarity from when I got it, to now is stunning.......and I never noticed how bad the chrome was under there either..till now...

anyone in the future looking for wind shield, polishing, clear, faded, my add to the tape trick, do the whole screen, one side then the other, gently rub the tape in, then start at one side and peel the whole side off. You can tell if you got the coating as the tape will just come off easily. IF you already did that spot, it will leave glue residue behind, and that my friend, is a bitch to remove.
Remove it from the frame as well before starting
Starting randomly I could see improvement but lost track of what I'd done. edge to edge the only way to go.

I had good luck by laying a wet towel on the side to be stripped for a half hour or so, then quickly drying it off and putting the tape on.  Seemed to loosen it up a bit, like removing a decal from a model.
