Timer for my signal lights

I purchased this small device from the Internet. It has the ability (which I seem to lack) of turning the power off to the signal flasher. It is rated for 5 watts which I feel is plenty for 2 lights at a time. The flash memory can be set from 1 second to many hours at a time, it can act as a delay to turn on after a set time to turning off the power after a set time too. I have it programmed to turn off after the 40 seconds. I'm going to install it this weekend. I belive it will work as good as those $80 units.

Are you planning on hooking it up to your current turn signal circuit? If so, I'm wondering how it will work with the Valk turn signal button since you have to manually turn it off to stop the signal from flashing. If you wire it into the current circuit and push your turn signal on and don't push it back, won't your run light for that side stay off? Be interested to see how it works for you.

I just purchased an interstate and was going crazy trying to fix my turn signals, found out that I had an aftermarket relay that shuts them off after a few seconds, I guess if you forget to turn them off it does it for you, I'm not too crazy about it, making a left turn at a light and it keeps shutting off, I'm afraid of getting hit by a car coming behind me. I also have some sort of head light device that makes it flash while driving and my buddy's make me take point because it drives them crazy if I'm behind them????
Think I'm taking both devices off if anyone is interested.

Your headlight modulator should have a switch somewhere for turning it off. At the least you can put a piece of tape over the light eye that turns it off at night. If you are set on removing them , I would be interested in them.

Yes, most turn off on low beam. Others can be turned off or sensitivity changed by changing from high/low beam in a set pattern. But you need to find out the brand, maybe even the model. But if you find the photo cell for light detection, just cover that with something. I had a LED type, and was using a little rubber boot that you put on the end of a screw so you don't have a sharp point.

Since I couldn't change how sensitive it was, it was offal at dawn and dust, when I still wanted to ride with high beam turned on, but didn't want the light flashing turning on/off in the shade/sun light.

Also, I would never drive without one. I feel that the difference of how well you are seen is like night-and-day. I also would hate to have you behind me when that sucker is turned on, so I understand about being in the front.

Please don't rely on a gizmo to turn your turn signal off.

I've ridden with too many bikes who have those and they will make a turn and the turn signals will keep flashing as they approach a side road.

Another road user may think the rider is going to make that turn and it WILL be the riders fault when there's a wreck.

I think John could be right about this, that your signal will stop flashing, but you will have lost the front amber running light on that side until you push to cancel.  Maybe that's less important to you.

Just flick it from low to high and back to lo fairly quickly,, see if that switches it to steady headlight,,, if  it does, do it again and it will modulate.
The most expensive things you will purchase, are those things you would not have needed if you had listened and obeyed.

98% of the time I will remember to turn them off. I'm installing it for those times I forget and ride on and on. I also thought of a installing a back up alarm ( beeeep, beeeep, beeeep ) under the seat.

I installed the piezo beepers on my standard. They work great under 15 mph, but over that I can't hear them with my helmet on.

I have a device mounted under the seat that vibrates the seat until you turn off the signal. Works great. Can't tell you the brand or any other details as it was on the bike when I bought it, but you could probably google it to find out.

I took a more reliable and positive approach for controlling my turn signals. About 10 yrs. ago I was looking at getting my handlebar controls chromed, but the work involved plus cost seemed out of touch with reality. I ran across some Harley controls that were fully chromed from the factory, and the extra delightful aspect of them....the turn signal buttons were on separate sides. Left turn....press the button on the left control, right turn.....press the button on the right control. Why Honda used their lame approach of one button I'll never understand. The HD controls were much less expensive than getting my OEM set chromed, and a lot less work adapting them to the Honda harness. Once installed, I picked up a Penta-Star unit made by Signal Dynamics Co., then wired it in and laid it on top of the battery cover under the seat. Press whichever turn you want; once....turns off in ~10 seconds, hold for 2 seconds and it goes off in ~20 seconds, hold for 4 seconds and it goes off in 75 seconds. If you want to kill it sooner, just press that same button. You want 4-way flashers....press left and right buttons at the same time. Press both to kill them. If you have the brake on, it interrupts the timing. Been on there about ten years with never a problem, something Honda should have done with their circuitry. I did have to add the diode kit in the indicator circuit located in the headlight bucket, no big deal. I know my '92 Wing would time out by itself so why didn't Honda do the same thing on the Valk? Couldn't have added more than a nickel to the overall cost of production. Guess I missed their call one day asking for my suggestions!?!   ;D
