Answer for Mike Saddle bag project seperate thread

I am now embarking on the custom install of Champion, patriot hard saddlebags.

I didn't look close enough at your pictures to realize those weren't old Valkyrie
bags... if your turn signal move works out as well as it seems it will, your bags
will be awesome.. make sure you mount your bags sturdily (that's what kind of
mount I was asking about   )... the Corbin bags are high quality, have very
sturdy well made mounts and bolt right on - but they are smaller than old Valkyrie
and Patriot bags... your extra work will be very much worth it... and someone
alluded to you getting a good deal on the Patriot bags... I scan eBay for them
occasionally just out of general interest... I saw a slightly scuffed up set for
$400 once, never any cheaper than that... your set looks brand new.

I am using the stock Honda hardware consisting of the two brackets that mount without the grab rails and the two side brackets that normally mate with the stock Honda bags.  We shall see  ???      The ebay listing said I do not know what these are so I am listing as universal saddlebags.  They were brand new and came in primer with the peal stick red reflectors that I stuck on after getting them squirted black. I knew right away what type they are when I saw the ad and pounced!     $200 plus shipping   I see them on the website for $1,250 in primer.  
They have no seams like the IS bags and the entire inside is thin grey carpet lined and I like that.  

If they do not work I have the stock brackets and will get stock Honda bags and be done. I made sure that I can remount the blinkers back to factory at any time meaning I did not foobar any parts in this project.

More than that, they're fiberglass instead of ABS...

I hope you find a good way to mount them... the OEM
hardware you have plus maybe some kind of home-brew
adapter...

Just a few self tappers and wood screws with glue       I'm not right in the head!


Collar washers with rubber washers through the bags to the Honda mount holes for start like the OEM 1500s and an L bracket to cradle the bottom.   

I will think more about that step when there.  Once I have the taillight bracket and OEM hardware on I will have the 1800 back to twist and I can take my time on the bags. If I was out of my work season I could have the 1800 at home and switch with the 1500. Not having the bike here local adds another hardship to the project.  Season at work ends the end of April   

Also any prelim thoughts are appreciated.  I can send pics of that step when there for any thoughts.
