Spend an hour being amazed.

Amazing photography from WW2, Pacific Theater.

What those men and women went through, to provide what we've enjoyed since, is truly unbelievable.

Thanks.  cooldude

They are not much in use anymore, and can throw off the aim, but there's nothing like a 2 foot bayonet to show you mean business.

Also notice how few overweight guys there were in the Pacific Theater?

Too bad so many young people today have no idea how much was sacrificed for their future.  Instead they are now afraid when someone writes Trumps name in caulk on the sidewalk.  Hat off to all those who served and to those few young people today who follow in their footsteps.

Bayonet training was still part of Basic in the late 50s, of course the M1 was still the main battle rifle back then.  Its a whole different Military now, and not all of it is better, but if taken off the leash they can still get the job done.

Great find Hook.  A true story in the Pacific.  My second cousin ( Mom's cousin her age ) was taken prisoner and part of the terrible Bataan Death March.  He survived the march, thousands did not.  At prisoner camp in the Phillipines ( was treated horribly ) he managed to escape.  He was found by a Japanese patrol who were then going to execute him on the spot.  Except for a Japanese soldier in the patrol changed their minds.  This Japanese soldier has been a friend of my cousin at the University of Chicago, both in engineering program and told the leader this man could be of help to them with his engineering ( specifically radio ) knowledge.   He survived the rest of the war until rescued.  I only met him as a child at a family reunion, however my Mother said upon return to the states he never ate rice again.

Great post.  Always appreciated what the men of this generation endured and overcame.  Pacific theater was particularly bad.  We all owe them a lot.

Amazing photo's! My Wife's father appears in # 51 He was in the Navy, a coxswain on one of the landing craft. Not sure how or why he was ashore.
He's the guy on the left helping the medic. Wish he were here to see this, he passed in 1997 in his sleep. Like many he had bad nightmares for years. and would not discuss what he did during the War. Looking at these photo's I can see why.

Lost an uncle I NEVER knew at Normandy-and YES-I know that was Europe. The Victory at Sea series was part of the reason I joined the Navy. RIDE SAFE.
