My son's a Marine, and they worship this guy..

He sounds both intensely viable and interesting - that is, he sounds sane.  It would be easy to say that we need more of that nowadays.

He sounds like a Marine's Marine - something we could really use right now.

But then, I wanted Colin Powell for President as well. EXTEREMLY difficult to convince a career officer with those credentials to run for President. You would almost have to phrase it as "one last chance to serve".

Even if he doesn't want to run, there are many positions in the incoming administration where his experiance would be valuable. Sec state, national security Advisor, etc.

What's his stance on the 2nd amendment? If he is against it or wants to change it in any way that is a deal breaker for me.

It sounds like he has great credentials. I'm pretty much on record as saying I would have hoped for an Allen West candidacy.
Even if General Mattis could be convinced to run as a 3rd Party candidate, how is anybody going to get out the word and expose him to an American populace where probably 40% can't even tell you who the VP is?

During an election cycle, I try to make an attempt to get to know what the candidates stand for and then form a semi educated opinion. I honestly feel for a 3rd Party to have a chance, they have to start out very early on in the campaign process.

If it came down to it, I'd vote for Trump....but I still can't believe after 8 yrs of regrouping, the Republican side has fallen into such disarray. It's pretty pathetic considering what the Democrats are throwing up as a possible opponent. They should be VERY beatable.

I'd vote for him too (or would have).  But he needed to be in it from the beginning.  To run now would be a repeat of Ross Perot, and a D victory (I'm afraid).

This is very true. The die is cast and the latecomer would need to be hyperdynamic to stand a chance. Or its obammie 2.0

Wonder if Trump has him in mind as one of his generals who know how to win?
