I'm fixing to fly to GA to ride my NTM State, back home.
Don't have much time around the Interstate, so I was wondering, can a full helmet fit in the trunk?
I'm shipping gear ahead of going south and want to have both my full and half helmets.
Also, the first I"m gonna do is "Super Valk" her. I know I 'll need a tail light, but does the rear fender on a Interstate have the indent for a OEM light? What's up with the tail light wiring?
Out side of the trunk mods and the tail light, what else should I be looking at to convert her.
Thanks ahead!

Never tried to put a full face in the trunk but it should fit and yes the rear fender a a plastic sheild over where the twilight goes, just pops out. As far as wiring I just spliced into the wires going to trunk lights.

I ordered the standard tail light pigtail for a clean wiring effect. As I did not intend to ever pit the trunk on.
I also acquired a set of standard fender supports for the same reason and so I could use an unmodified rear bar or luggage rack.

Thanks for the info Bighead.
So do you leave the fender tail light on, if you put the trunk back on?
Seems like a good thing, if it fits.

Thanks Pete, Most likely I'll be using this bike as a two up from time to time on trips, just really like the look of a "Super Valk". I like the idea of the pigtail.

Full face helmet - yes Standard tail light - yes The tail light stays, if you want to use the radio after removing trunk you will need an alternate antenna setup. I had a feeling you weren't going to be able to wait much longer for it. Ride Safe my friend

Cool pics, thanks. Nice Paint. That tail light looks really good, plus the extra braking illumination is a positive thing. I like the air foil/light bar/spoiler. Looks like it belongs

It's not all about me though. My sisters #2 son is building a house in Zionville, NC and I'm gonna spend some time helping him out. I'm not much of a radio guy, usually don't even have them on when in the truck or cage. To much noise. Getting old, or wise, or ornery, or all. Thanks for the "ride safe"

The only clearance problem with an Interstate trunk and Tourer/Std tail light is if the IS has a CB radio mounted in the stock position under the trunk. No CB, no issue (and I have read the radio can be turned sideways under there if necessary to clear a tail light). You'll want to make the trunk lights and rear speakers (assuming you have them) plug and play for removal/replacement. To make the trunk on and off ready, do not use tourer/std fender struts, the IS fender struts with trunk supports must stay, and be slotted. Since the IS trunk carries the radio antenna, you'll need to move the whip, or maybe better to get a small aftermarket antenna and move it off the trunk and leave it. Same deal if there is a CB antenna. Since you end up with a single tail light (run/brake) light, adding a converter to change your 1156 rear signals to run/turn/brake is a nice improvement (but you have to go to red lenses since constant amber in the rear is a no no most places). Links to supervalk conversion. (one dead) http://forums.delphiforums.com/valkyrie/messages/?msg=13556.1Parts list for tail light. http://forums.delphiforums.com/valkyrie/messages/?msg=11596.1

Several other Hondas use the identical tail light lens (Ace tourer, Saber, ?) but the mount is not exactly the same on these other bikes, so unless you are prepared to diddle and make-do, the correct mount will be a better choice.

If you are packing a helmet in the trunk, please place helmet in a helmet bag or pillow case. The jarring around in the trunk will ding up the helmet, or so I have heard.

If you do the quick removal mod for the trunk ... several ways are listed on here, then you can have the trunk on and off in minutes.... If I am going to be staying in the same place for more than 24hrs, I will actually take it off and leave it in the room... to me the bike feels much better without it... but maybe thats just my butt dyno talking..LOL I have a shorty antenna mounted on one of the bag rail between the fender and right saddle bag.... but I use the trunk mounted ones when it is on.. better CB and radio reception.... My CB unit is already under the seat as I added it later to the bike.... there is room in the tool area behind the battery if you remove the center divider. I have quick disconnects for all wiring under the seat.... and keep a 12 mm ratchet wrench in the trunk at all times just for this.. so all you have to do is loosen the 4 nuts... unplug.... retighten nuts and yer done.... 90 % of the time the trunk hangs on the wall of my garage.... I did the slots for the quick on/off mod differently than most..... straight angled cuts.... less modification than the other ways and easier to drop on.... and with the angle I cut, the trunk will stay just by the weight of the trunk.... (don't ask me how I know).... And you don't have to shave the front of the bracket to slide the bracket onto the bolt like with the long slot method. Here are the disconnects... I used the stock plug from the standard harness that came with the used light I bought.. same as the I/S as both plugs work and spliced it into the I/S harness under the seat... With the straight cuts you don't see the cuts when the trunk is on as the nuts cover most of it up. Just my 2 cents....... B

I like the angle of cut Brad has on his brackets. Mine was already supervalked by the previous owner. The angles are opposite his. His are better.

Hey Craig; Thanks for the offer, I'll keep it in mind I'm flying out on the 20th and should be back around 5-1. I'm gonna spend as much time as needed helping out my nephew. 25 years ago, when I built my house, he was a 14 year old kid that came and lived with me for the summer, helping me. It's time for pay back. Looking forward to it.

Yes, you want the cuts as shown, otherwise if you haven't tighten the nuts up enough and they rattle loose, the rear passenger can push back on the trunk and push it right off the mounting bolts. Would make for a very bad day.

Thanks for the offer Craig. Seeing as I'm just going to one place and not traveling to different stops each night, don't think I'll need it. I'd like to see it, might need to get one for future use. When I get back, thinking of having a "carb sync" party to break in my Digi-sinc. Let you know
