Tourer with interstate trunk wiring

Hello all, I am in the process of adding a removable interstate trunk to my fast black standard /tourer.  Question:  I have no electrical experience so does anyone have detailed instructions on how and where to tap into the wires,( stop lights or maybe both stop and turn lights) and how to build the disconnect for when I remove the trunk.  The trunk has the attached female pigtail coming off of it so that's where I'm starting.  Pics would be great as I'm more visual.

Trim the trunk mounting bracket - the flat black piece which is near the taillight when the trunk is mounted - or you will damage the taillight when the bracket is mounted to the rails. About 1/4" off the inner edges, cut at a 45 degree angle will do it.

As far as the wiring goes: Do you have the schematics included with the OEM service manual? They should give you enough detail to build an interface to the Tourer's wiring harness.

Electrical Connection has the Hitachi OEM connectors you'll need. 3.5mm bullets for the Tourer side of things (turn, run, stop) and a 4 or 6 pin rectangular (I/S trunk side).

If you were nearby I would build one up for you with the bike on-hand.

Thanks for your response.  I think that will at least get me started.  I have the wiring schematics which is like reading Greek to me but I'll give it a shot.  Where would I tap into the tourers electrical. Under the seat by the battery, behind the right side cover? 
Since I am attempting to do this myself just trying to not screw the electrical up.... From the reading I've done and from past experiences the Valkyrie electrical system can be a little temperamental.

Exactly. The color codes are orange and blue for the turns, brown for taillight and green for ground. Stoplight is brown with a white stripe, if I recall correctly - but don't quote me on that. All interfaces for taillight and turn signals can be found inside a clear plastic boot underneath the side cover.

You'll want to build a wye connector for each circuit. That is, a pair of wires with a male bullet on the "common" end, a female bullet on the opposite end of one and the second one run to the rectangular Hitachi connector that will mate with the trunk harness.

Post a pic of the wiring harness coming from your trunk - specifically, the connector end and color details of the wires which are attached.

I MIGHT be able to build one for you using my Tourer/trunk combo as a model if your trunk harness is OEM.

By any chance did either of you gents take a photo of your finished project?  I am doing exactly the same thing... I have an interstate trunk that I need to be able to plug into my Tourer wiring.

Does the colour coding of the Interstate wiring match that on the Tourer?  If so, it should be fairly easy... where it will get tricky for me is if the colour codes do not match.

Ya, I would have thought the same thing, but in the back of my Clymer 1997 - 2000 service repair manual, the colour coding for the '97 - '99 is different than the 2000. 

For instance:
RR Turn Signal Light = Sb (sky blue) in 97-99, where it is L (blue) for 2000.

It would seem that it's because they are showing extra lights/circuits for the '97 - '99 GL1500C and GL1500CT (the Standard & Tourer), but it doesn't make sense because the extra lights that they are showing aren't on the bikes.... whereas for the 2000 year they simplified things.

For the 2000 year all they show is: Right Rear Turn Signal Light / Brake-Taillight / License Light / Left Rear Turn Signal Light.... and that's it.

For '97 - '99, that also add a Right Brake & Taillight / a Right Accessory Light / a Left Accessory Light / and a Left Brake & Taillight.
