Ceramic Coating Recommendations.

Does anyone know of a Ceramic Coating business that they would recommend to refurbish some Viking Headers? 

I've been given the name of R&M Coatings, but I can't find any contact info on them.

I used ITC on my vikings.  ITC 213 on it.  only a high end industrial epoxy silver paint will stay on. still experimenting which one will not flake off.

This company, PerformanceKote, is a local outfit here in Orlando. They have a process called CeramaKrome, if you look through the motorcycle section in the link you can see some of their work. I believe a set of Valk OEM pipes would run somewhere around $200. That was a couple years ago so don't know if it's still around that price. All I know is it comes out looking almost like chrome except it's a ceramic coating via the powder coating process. You'd have to strip down the pipes, take all the muffler covers off, etc., then ship them. I have two unmolested sets I've been wanting to have them do the headers on, just haven't coughed up the $$ to do it yet. One set has a couple dings underneath and mostly invisible, the other has nothing, both sets have some surface rust on the headers and that's why I wanted to have them coated.

Coincidentally I just received a quote from Jet-Hot.com today for my slightly rusted Two Brothers headers. They're chrome and I have to have the chrome removed before they'll do the work. They won't have anything to do with removing the chrome. The underlying nickel is fine but the chrome must be removed.

They also don't recommend the Polished, Burnished or Satin finish based upon the previous rust. (They haven't seen the pipes but I did mention that there's rust.) This is a bummer because I'd like them to be somewhat shiny.

They quoted me $355 plus shipping for just the headers.

The OP doesn't have chrome so he won't face this problem: Chrome shops won't remove the chrome from exhaust pipes as there's a good chance of contaminating their baths with the internal exhaust residues and forces them to change their tank fluids.

I did talk to an outfit here in Missouri that will take on the job. They said they can deal with the chrome and would rather do the job without someone else messing with the pipes before hand. Since they have a two week turnaround I'll be waiting a bit before I give them a try. http://www.PerformanceCoatingsPlus.com

a lot of those other companies are really just paint with ceramic particles in it. it will look nice and provide a lower level of ceramic performance, but if one really wants the true performance potential of a real ceramic coating one needs to use the product sites I listed. Swain gives great info on their site.

Very interesting thread! - I am doing a resto on my standard, and I havent decided on how to deal with the header pipes. Mine are in reasonable shape, but I want like new.

The ceramic with polishing looks promissing, but has anyone just inquired with Chrome venders to just do a rechrome on the headers?

I noted earlier that chrome shops won't remove the chrome from exhaust pipes as there's a good chance of contaminating their baths with the internal exhaust residues and forces them to change their tank fluids. If you find one that will do it please let everyone know!!
