21 December 1928   28 November 1950.  He was serving with the U S Army 57th  Field Artillery Far East Command at the time of his death. He was killed near the Chosin Resevoir. The night he was killed it was -20 Degrees F. The reason we know the temperature when he died-his Army Bud from mid state Illinois was informed of this mission by his son who is a P G R rider. So his Army bud was at his funeral today. We had 38 motors and 3 support vehicles show up for this mission. Cpl. Ervin has 5 surviving siblings and his baby sister for the last 65 years has wanted to put Flowers on her Brothers grave on Memorial Day! This Memorial Day Cpl. Ervin's Baby Sister will be able to lay those Flowers she's only been able to dream about til this year! Cpl. Ervin was Laid to Rest with Full Military Honors. This is with out a doubt one of the most meaningful Missions I've been a part of since I've been Riding P G R. ALL my missions are meaningful but this one is UP there. Would that we could get closure for ALL those M I As. RIDE SAFE.

If Chosin is in what is now North Korea how did we just get him back?

I had a friend who was a Marine there, when they finally were able to bug out after the others left and he took off his helmet all of his hair was white, till the day he died in his 70's

Courage I can not imagine having to prop up a machine gun to reach over all the NK/PVA dead soldiers bodies in -35 weather with no reinforcement possible

I wasn't privy to ALL the details but as I understand it when the chicoms overran the American positions we-the Americans-were forced to leave our dead behind. I KNOW I should have made notes but I'm thinking his remains were discovered and returned due to something called-Operation Korea. I hope I have that right cuz sometimes my rekememberer goes kerflooey-But NOT all the time!  Roll Eyes RIDE SAFE.

I am so glad Cpl. William Eldon Ervin is back home where he belongs.  Many others still over there.  Russians took many and never returned.  Not sure what his story is.  Could be North Korea or China also.  That Chosin Reservoir was a nightmare.  In just a short span of time after the Inchon Landing we had moved the North Korean's all way to Chinese border with high hopes to end the War by Christmas. Then in steps the Chinese with never ending man power and no regard for life.
