That makes me feel physically sick.

Even keeping an eye in the mirror whilst stopped may not have helped.

Wonder if the "I didn't see the motorcycle" defense worked this time.

The only way that could have been prevented was if the driver had been paying attention.  I'd like to know what was distracting that driver. I'd also like to see the punishment be exactly the same for that driver.

I never saw brake lights on that car, and it seemed to be traveling too fast for the road type.

There are times when "an eye for an eye" isn't enough. This is dangerously close to that....

One of my biggest fears on display. As much as I dislike a cage stopping behind me in traffic, this alternative scares the sh_t out of me. Possibly more than most other idiot things cagers could do since it has happened to me, albeit not nearly so severe. I lived, I doubt this rider did.

I've was on the receiving end of that scenario last September. Rear ended by an audi doing around 50-60 mph while I was going maybe 2-3 mph waiting on traffic to clear to make a turn. I actually just got the old cb750c I was riding that day fired up yesterday. I think I have enough spare parts to fix it at least into a Frankenstein rat bobber. If only I could say the same for my back and every joint on my left side.

I'm not trying to make a critical judgement on anybody elses wreck. I've had two that both happened in a split second.

But in watching that video, I do see an out that cyclist had. At a stop, I'm always watching for the first car that's approaching from behind to be slowing well before he gets to me. If the biker was in gear and watching his mirror, he would have had "maybe" a couple secs to gas it and turn right. His path was clear.

They say hind-sight is always 20/20.  There could be a pun in there somewhere, I guess.

Wiggy, you can not watch just a rear view mirror while stopped. At the speed the car in the video was traveling, the rider may have been looking at the other two wheeler that was just pulling up before again going on the swivel, and never saw the car approaching. I know when this happened to me, I saw the car coming and was trying my best to climb onto a sidewalk. Not quite in time though and the driver to the right exiting the intersection was very impressed by my windshield diving technique when I landed in her lap.

Maybe Russ. But that car was moving. It seemed there wasn't much of a chance. I remember a couple years ago a Bobtail truck was coming down the Hiway when the light turned on him and he slammed on the brakes and had no control. I saw the whole thing happening, but didn't know what to do until the last second when he started heading for me. Luckily I was in gear and escaped. But I had a lot of time to try to make a decision compared to that guy. Watching that video is going to make me pay a little more attention to cars behind me. Usually at an intersection once a car or two has pulled up behind me I quit thinking about them. That may not be wise.  Smiley

If the light catches me and puts me the first at the line I stay in gear and pay attention to both  mirror's. AND I'm figuring an out an exit strategy a way to keep my old sorry ass SAFE.  BUT I'm thinkin from what the tape shows and how fast the cage was going the out come remains the same 4 out of 5 times. I've made split second decisions while getting a yellow as to stop or keep going. Also waiting an extra heartbeat or three before proceeding on a green. Sittin there enjoyin the day and THAT happens!  Cry Far far too much of dat kaka happening to us-Motorcyclists as a whole!  Lips Sealed First time I looked at this yesterday my blood ran cold. I KNOW this could happen to anyone of us but the graphic evidence/truth IS own right blood chilling.  RIDE SAFE.

Seems to me that people are driving worse and worse. You can't get on the road without seeing driving rules ignored and bad habits. Some drivers seem oblivious to anyone around them, and they zoom up behind you, no way to know if they are going to stop or not.

I felt my heart sinking for that rider. Don't think he much of a chance. That cage driver was not looking at all and probably texting.

Gosh  if this does not wake one up to be vigilant at all times, maybe nothing will.  If that had been me parked at that light I would have been a front ornament for that building for sure.   I pull up to a light and give the right hand a break to ease numbing and stress.   One way this could have been prevented would be to pull up next to the curb and I just may start doing this.  Of course this would allow cagers to squeeze in besides you.  In any case my eyes will be to the rear a heck of a lot more.

Firefighter is right.  People are driving worse due to the phone curse and I see this all the time both on a bike and in an auto.  Do cagers know what a blinker is for.  Is their social life so important that it is more important to keep up with every bit of info as to keeping total control of their vehicle.  Just this past year here in Ohio traffic deaths went up 11 percent according to the portable displays they put out on the interstates starting last spring.  I can only think poor skills and social texting are the cause of this.

Some folks today are just plain clueless. I just watched a young woman with 2 little kids in the car, both unstrapped jumping around in the front seat and she was texting. It appeared she was spending too much playing with the fingers to be dialing. But she did manage to stop at the light.

Whether or not the collision was caused by texting this BULLSHIT of texting and driving CAN be cured overnight. Most new phones have G P S. So past 3 or 4 M P H the cursed distraction device is no longer useable. End of problem! What about the passengers you ask-DEAL with it til you stop or reach your destination. And cell phone use while driving is NOT a right! My question is-who will step up first-the cell phone companies or our gubmint!  2funny Bein as we live in a free crap era I KNOW neither one will do anything.  uglystupid2 RIDE SAFE

I never saw the guy that hit me in the ass on the Xway. Can't do anything about something you can't see. I was almost stopped and they figure he hit me at 55 -60 MPH. I don't know what would be better, to see it coming or not? IF I would have seen this idiot I had an out, but I never had a hint or I would have taken it. Still hurts everyday.

Wow, after seeing that, I too will try and keep a better eye out behind and keep her in gear.  I have gotten into a bad habit of shifting into neutral just about every time I stop for a light.

Agreed, the insurance companies should drive it.  You get caught texting or in a crash due to texting then your insurance rating goes to hell in a hand basket and you can't get insurance for a year or two or three.  Get caught driving with no insurance and your car goes away.  They'll never disable the phone features via GPS, too many people not driving would scream bloody murder, i.e. people sitting on a bus.
