Usually not a fan of modern covers of classic songs, but this one is done so right!

Incredible range and voice. Needs to be full screen with speakers on "11".

Having been a "classic" rock connoisseur all my life, more recently I've had a much more open mind.  I have never been a fan of the metal bands, but I've never objected to a well done cover.  (Think Metallica's "Turn the Page" cover of Seger's masterpiece).

But, this guy (these guys) blew me away on that one.  I went and read up on Disturbed and Mr. Draiman.  I'm a fan.

I guess I'll be the dissenting opinion. While he's a very good vocalist and did the song well, the greatness of the original to me was the incredible harmony that Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel had together-especially in "Sounds of Silence". In this version, I kept expecting someone else to jump in, which never happened.

Just the fact that it wasn't done with at least one other vocalist left something lacking.

But appreciate you sharing it with us!

I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking that. In my opinion it's pretty hard to top Simon & Garfunkel.  cooldude

Agreed.  He has a fine voice, but I much prefer a tenor (Simon) over a baritone (him).

Guys, I never said he topped Simon and Garfunkel.  Their harmony is legendary (although CSN probably have that top honor locked up).   I thought he had a really engaging take on the song.

Like I said, I'm now a fan and did some more digging into their work.   If you remember and liked Phil Collins' "Land of Confusion", I did, too.

Then check out Disturbed's cover of that fine piece.  Believe me, the impact of those lyrics along with the interesting Totalitarian state graphics are WAAAAYYY more frightening 30 years later!

While I generally do not like covers, this was a cover of a Paul Simon solo song that I enjoyed.

With a couple or three covers of Simon and Garfunkel presented I was inspired to go back and listen again to the originals.  It could be nostalgia as I am old but nothing comes close.   How fortunate we were to be young when those two just happened upon the music world.

It funny but my kids tell me that since I lived through the music of the 60's and 70's that I lived through the greatest music era ever.

I'll always give a cover a shot.
I liked it but not enough to get the album. (age revealed)
One of my all time favorites is Leslie West, "Dear Prudence".

In the realm of cover songs, it's tough for anyone to top this stellar rendition of the Elton John classic Rocket Man:

Agreed, I was trying to be nice without saying nothing compares in my previous reply.
Simon and Garfunkel had so many Classics but along with Sounds of Silence, The Boxer is probably my favorite S&G tune.

What a wonderful thread this is turning into!  At first, I thought RP was joking, then I figured he must be tone deaf...then I went and listened to Dolly do this live.   I loved it!   The banjo really sounds good on that tune.  I've heard it thousands of times (played it hundreds), but her "cover" was very well done.  The girl can sing.

Speaking of girls doing Led Zeppelin, if you never saw the Wilson sisters do "Stairway", you will never see it done like this.   Even Plant and Page were impressed.   (They were there!)

"Stairway" has a lot of cover versions. Here for your listening enjoyment and critique is a flamenco version...

I like the Disturbed version  as well as the original as well as the Heart version of Stairway to Heaven.

It's good the see an old classic like Sounds of Silence redone.
