Maybe he should look down the barrel to see what's wrong

Glad you kept the finger Chris

I looked, it hurt my whole body when the gun went off.  There was a time I would have said something about what an idiot you'd have to be.

Anyone can do something stupid for just a moment

Well said Chris....We ALL have our moments

I fail to see what he was trying to do.
I see no excuse for him doing that.

I think he was demonstrating a laser sight, showing the red dot on his hand...

Well, I saw a flash, and I saw him back away in what looks like pain.

But I didn't see any bits go flying, or any blood go spurting.

It could be fake.

If it was they went to some extremes. He was dripping blood all over the floor. His laser may not work but his gun sure does.  :o

A moment of stupidity, actually more than one.  It's not fake. Full screen a mark on his hand and there's blood dripping on the floor as he backed away.

Loaded weapon ONLY gets pointed DOWNRANGE. Takes way LESS than a moment!  :uglystupid2: RIDE SAFE.

NEVER cover anything with the muzzle that you are not prepared to destroy. NEVER EVER PERIOD

Variation on the normal FOUR rules that if followed will result in a lifetime of safe firearms use.

Never, ever fok around with a loaded gun.  You fok around with a just-checked empty gun.

Never cover the trigger until shooting (unless dry firing a just-checked empty gun, which is a form of foking around).

Use muzzle discipline all the damn time (whether loaded or not).

Be sure of your target and backstop.

You watch this, you know what's coming, he breaks all the rules.... the guy seems to have target fixation with his hand (I guess the laser).

Side note:  One of my (always loaded) house guns is a revolver with Crimson Trace grip.  It is a bad idea to paint the wall with the laser button with the middle finger (practice) on a loaded gun, even if your trigger finger is off the trigger.  Practice is warranted since you could very well need to defend your home with gun in hand where you want to hold at the ready, but not give away your position by squeezing the middle of the grip over the laser button, then hit the laser but not shoot, then shoot (all with the same hand).  Regardless of muscle memory, it would be easy to tell your middle finger to squeeze the grip for laser only, and hit the trigger instead (esp under high stress/adrenaline). With this setup you use/squeeze two fingers instead of one (trigger and laser) on the same hand, and you could easily have an oops if you are not careful.  This also comes under he heading of not foking around with a loaded firearm.

No disrespect to Jeff or anyone else who has had an accident.  But those 4 rules were learned when I was 10. Seeing people do stuff like that makes me very leery to be at a shooting range with other people. Thankfully we have lots of empty desert here.

Well... at least he wasn't this guy's hearing protection I guess...

Well that makes perfect sense. He is an ATF agent.  :o (that's not real is it ?)

Jess from VA

I think the ATF hat is poetic license.

How would like to be an ATF guy with this picture all over creation?

Not that I don't think they have some class A bozos.

I was taught a LONG time ago to treat ALL weapons like they are still loaded-even AFTER I ejected the magazine and racked the slide to make SURE it IS empty and even AFTER I rolled out or removed the cylinder on a wheel pistol. Rifles shotguns B B guns ETC ETC-you git the idea! Most if not all of us are aware that after you activate the bang switch ya really can't bring it back. RIDE SAFE.

I spend $$ I don't have to join a gun club with private range for that very reason. The same reason I stopped hunting on Public land back in the 80s.
Here there be Dragons.

Chrisj CMA

I shoot on my own private land. My accident happened in my dining room.  Yes, all those rules we so self-righteously proclaim.  Yes, I said it, I used to preach them too thinking "it" could never happen to me.  Rules don't keep you safe.  Practice and concentration does.  No matter how many rules you memorize one must acquire and then maintain the muscle memory to go with it.
