Hey all

I had the winter off with my broken arm {bruised and refused post} my bike is in Kingman AZ ironically where I'm, moving too. Anyway given my current health I think its time to trike. I'm having balance issues and my feet feel like they are frost bitten for three weeks now. Its not blood sugar... had that checked. It's MS getting worse {neuropathy}. So I think a Goldwing trike is the way to go. I would have 6 front lights as opposed to one and I CANT DROP IT !!! that's the biggie. I should be able to get an automatic transmission so if/when my feet/legs start to go I can still operate it.

It's not dying that scares me its getting hurt/crippled {worse than I am} and staying alive that I worried about. "from the dirt we have arisen....to the dirt we shall return" I would like at least partial control over my limbs while I'm here.

So I'm seeing a Goldwing trike as my next ride, my parents agree it would be much safer then what I do now. I would rather hang up two wheels by choice then be forced too {accident or traffic violations}

so that's where I'm at right now, still moving to Kingman AZ

I'll keep ya all posted

Have you ridden the new Spyders ?

If you can ride an ATV  it will be a piece of cake

The Polaris Slingshot is also an AWESOME ride if you really want luxury and face in the wind

Hope your stay on this side of the dirt has more good days than bad days

I have a 1500 goldwing trike. The more I ride it the better I like it. I had a SE Spyder for a while and at first I liked it, but after shifting so many years I missed it. I would probably kept the Spyder if it would have been a manual verses auto. JAT, but you may love it.

No, they don't, but they do make electric shifters that are operated by a pair of push buttons on the left handlebar.
The drag racing bikes use them to get super quick shifts.

Think about a trike with independent rear suspension, your back and your passenger will thank you for it every time you go over a lane-wide dip or bump. You're not losing anything, you're gaining stability, and you will be absolutely amazed at what you can do on 3 wheels, once you get the feel of the no-lean steering.

There's a good trike builder in the PHX area. He often has used Wing trikes for sale. He deals in Champion and DFT trikes.  D&D Discount MC in Tempe, AZ.

I have friends that ride Spyders when the senior citizen riding club gets together , nothing but praise from the ones that ride them.  Most have various problems that would not allow them to ride a two wheeler, some just like them for the comfort.  I hope you get some relief, brother.  Hoser

No shifting and the price will be much lower for a Spyder vs Goldwing. Best wishes to you!

I've seen many types of conversions and also different 3 wheel set ups, but this is the coolest yet...I could see myself using this set up and being satisfied if or when the time comes I could no longer do it on 2 wheels. That being said, I rode with a member from Spokane last year to and from Inzane who was on a California Side Car trike AND towing a trailer. On the return trip he was in the lead up and over Beartooth Pass in Wyoming/Montana and I was very impressed with how that thing took those corners without holding up our small group (OK, maybe I'm not the fastest 2-up, but the point is he handled that rig much better in that instance than I could ever imagine). As others have said, whatever means keeps one out on the road and in the wind is a good choice...there are several.

Sounds like you are proactive on this Dan, good for you.  Several options others have pointed out.  I like Oss idea of the Spyder with auto.  They have some killer styles they have recently developed also.
Another auto option is to trike a Suzuki Burgman 650 which is a luxury type scooter, or to a lesser degree a Honda Silverwing.  Another Honda that could be triked I think would be the Honda CTX 700 DCT.  Dct is a dual clutch technology that is auto.  They have a pretty neat fairing.
Do let us know what you decide.

Lots of folks here seem to be advising Dan on triking his two wheeler.  I don't see why anyone would.  The country is full of trikes that someone has created and ridden only a few miles.  One can buy a slightly used trike for significantly less money than the cost of converting another two wheeled motorcycle to three wheels.

Good fortune to you, Dan, whatever you choose.

Saw this on an episode of "Jay Leno's Garage". Had the inventor on. Very interesting, to me at least. Might be able to find it on Vevo or YouTube.

Agree,  I have seen good used low mileage (but older generation 998cc or something like that) can am spyders for around 8-9 grand near like new but say 4-5 years old is all.

They are not going to be as comfy or as fast as a Wing, but have reverse and auto if so desired at 1/3 the cost of a wing trike.  gas mileage isn't great but neither will a wing trike.

I hear the new and improved bigger engine spyder's are nicer, but also more pricey as well out of my price range.

something to think about or at least test drive before spending the dough on a wing trike.

Thank you all

From what I've read {here and other places} I'm leaning towards a spyder. I can get an automatic transmission and linked brakes on a hand control. So if/when my feet/legs get worse I could operate it with my hands/arms.

I'm in the middle of a move right now, between that and my health riding will have to wait. Hope to see you guys again somewhere some time

Do it while you can, you can wake up one day and NOT be able to do it anymore

Sick or not I already did it 49 states 9 provinces of Canada Artic circle ALMOST every national park in the USA

I will keep ya all posted. Even if I go to a spyder I would like to stay with the VRCC

You are more than welcome to stay around here Dan. My buddy hotglue just bought a new spyder and although he still owns two Valkyries I sure hope that he hangs around. Personally I don't see Mark keeping his Valkyries but who cares. This family is less about bikes and more about good people. Good folks are what make things great. Ride what you want to or don't ride at all and you will still be welcome here. Get that new ride and come to Inzane.  cooldude
