Been stewin on this fer a bit and right up front most likely not much that can be done. Headed for consumer goods. Has anyone noticed a half gallon of ice cream is NOT a half gallon? More like 56 ounces versus 64 ounces! BUT the price remains the same they just give you less. I buy the 5 quart pail of ice cream from Aldi's and for some time the 5 quart pail has been $4.99. The 5 quart pail is now 4 and a half quarts BUT the price is still $4.99. The most recent thing I've noticed is my toilet paper. For years been using the 1000 sheet roll from Scott and they've had a nine roll package for around $7.00 for quite awhile at Dollar General. Well here AGAIN It's still about seven bucks BUT the package now contains only eight rolls! While I was still on the road working I noticed a sixteen ounce orange juice wound down to 12 ounces or so along with a price increase. Awhile back I priced what was a 10 and a half ounce O J and it was flirting with $3.00. While the prices MAY not change And the quantity goes down it is a price increase! RIDE SAFE.

Dennis, I must admit I'm not as observant as you are, but I have noticed the ever shrinking packages. And how about the packages that are pretty decently sized on the outside but the inside product only takes up a fourth of the box...etc.
I also LOVE the phrase, "Some settling may occur", which translates into, "We're going to make you think you're getting a lot but we're only gonna fill the box/bag a third full".
If you think it's getting bad now, wait till all the states adopt 15/hr minimum wage.

I have been complaining for years about my favorite bar soap, Dial.
'New and Improved' means they have shaped it to conform to your body (except is sure does not match the contours of mine very well). They have 'shaped' to to the tune of a couple less ounces on each bar.
Just a sign of the times and corporate greed trying to make a buck from consumer instead of doing a better of job with their own employees.

You musta' been awfully hungary when you been eatin' them Little Debbies, or any cookies, or any box of cereal, or any candy bar, or any of the other million processed foods. They been shrinking for the past ten years. Nothing new. My Cadberry eggs this Easter looked like Jelly Bellies. It's da' way of the world....get used to it.......and pay attention to what you eat!

I remember a long time ago, Consumer Reports (or similar organization) reported on this. The company response was that they had to reduce the quantity to avoid a price increase. Consumer Reports responded that it was actually a price increase the company was trying to hide.
On a related note, the small business I worked for in the 1990s provided parking as a benefit for the approximately 5 employees (me included). Parking was about $70 per month. Times were tight and we were told parking would no longer be a paid benefit. This was to avoid "wage cuts." Of course this was exactly a "wage cut," and one of the most stupid kind. Parking was a tax deductible benefit for the employer, and an after tax expense for the employee. The employees would have been better off with an actual reduction in wages and keeping the untaxed benefit.

Funny, the price of Government continues to rise on all fronts, but instead of a decease in size, all we get is an ever expanding Govt. I wish we could stop buying.
Notice how candy bar wrappers stay the same size, even when the bar shrinks? Of course this is to save on the expense of retooling the candy bar wrapper machines, and has nothing to do with bait and switch.

You guys are right, the way to raise prices without raising prices. Great observation Old2soon since I dont usually do the shopping I have not noticed it but have heard this is happening. Government does it all the time and we don't see it the printing of money devalues our money so we pay more.
The companies pass this cost along in the form of less product for the same money. There are so many things that have raised the prices of items and we get to the end of the week and look at our money and have less in our pockets and wonder why. Not to mention it makes everyone feel rosey about the economy since we get what we need and most hopefully wont know that they receive less. Can anyone say health care? We in the US have really lost a major portion to a standard of living with all the little pieces of the pie being taken out of what everyone makes.

I first noticed this clever packaging marketing method over 40 years ago. A few years ago my beloved 6 1/4 oz tuna can went to 5 oz a full 20 percent drop at same price Did you also know that when they compute inflation they do not count food. My gosh food has doubled in price in the O admin. Must be another clever trick they incorporated along with how to compute true unemployment numbers back in the mid 90s. And those in fixed, and middle income still get the brunt of the shaft. If you drop your keys do not bend over to pick them up. Kick them to you car. It just may be the government behind you.

You mean you are just noticing that now!! One of my favorite is puffing foods up with air. There was like a pudding or yogurt they puffed with air and then they called it mousse. What is it called, maybe cheese curls, depending on the brand name. Another favorite is vending machines, talk about a rail job! I don't recall what I bought at that time, but I calculated the amount and the cost of the snack and if figured out to be something like $16 an oz. Man this stuff has been going on for a long time, but people live in denial and run on autopilot and never see it. Make sure you get the stick and wrapper with it, because every sucker should have one.

Face up , less food (or what ever you choose to call it) in the package , the less toilet paper needed. There is a rhyme for the reason. What ever happened to Chunky , what a chunk of chocolate. Still only five cents. (I think it is the size of an M&M ) The last time I saw them it was around $3.00 dollars. It is not even chocolate , but a flavored wax. On the rare occasion I eat sweets, I try to find a European style bakery or sweet shop. That is where you can get real quality. Except when my brother (O2S) visits. The best apple fritter is in Crystal Lake Il . at Country Donuts. Good coffee and I sneak in on occasion to imbibe.

A gallon is 64 oz. If you bought a half gallon and received 56 oz, then you got an extra 23 oz. Do the math!

You need to start a diet of Big Gulps at 7-11. Their sizes just keep going up. Not sure about the prices, though.

Gotz to thank Russ fer givin Momz the math lesson! Tween da gubmint and da corporations we be between a rock and a hard place and a steep bottomless drop off! While the prices are high and continue to rise by paying attention at the 3 grocery stores I shop at I manage to eat well. Tonight fer instance sirloin steak tossed salad and Icy cold Heineken is on my menu! I have one of my local grocers that has huge discounts on out of date meat. Believe that sirloin was $4 off. Been purchasing that discount meat for over 7 years. NEVER had a bad piece of meat. Course the fact I ride with the head butcher from that store gotz nuttin to do with it at ALL! I KNOW some of y'all here wouldn't go into wally wurld for love nor money! BUT when it comes to my beer I CAN quantify saving over 40% versus a liquor store. Heiny is a bit over a dollar a bottle this way! deception central decided WE-those of us on social insecurity did NOT need a raise! DUMB ASSES. And insult to injury gasoline is going back UP here! It was mid dollar eighties yesterday-ain't looked yet today. Knda sorta wanna sneak up on it! RIDE SAFE
