Awesome machine.  One-of-a-kind Mustang powered by a 3,200 hp Rolls Royce Griffon and  counter rotating props.  I think it was lost last year due to a ground fire while taxiing out at Reno.

He did a nice job !  I'm surprised the Gyro tumbled, he didn't appear to be doing too much to cause that.  He floated awhile, but, so what, he didn't bend anything. He did a nice job !

A local dentist owned a P40, beautiful airplane. He didn't take care of it. He winter stored it at another  airport and had to fly over my house to get there. That old Allison was belching when he took it there in the fall, and, belching even worse come spring. I happened to be in the back yard when he came back with it and could hear it long before I could see it. Once in sight the engine failed and he tried to set it down in a field. He picked the wrong one. He picked a plowed field and he put the gear down. He quickly turned a beautiful piece of work into a pile of scrap metal, an expensive piece of scrap metal.

I was amazed at how calmly he handled it. If the text hadn't come up, very possible to not even know the engine had failed.

I used to maintain a Shrike Commander for the FBO in Marathon FL.  The owner had been a P-51 pilot during the war and he used to tell us war stories at lunch.  He was telling me that he once ran out of gas over the North Sea coming back from an escort mission.  I asked him what he did then.  He looked at me like I was stupid (for good reason) and said "I crashed in the ocean, what the hell else could I do"

Wow, at least two severe side slips to even get it on the runway...
