Hey fellas,

 As a " second generation " Valkyrie owner at the ripe age of 46, ( today being my birthday actually ) I am still getting acquainted with my fat girl. I also had a question about the bike.... I have a new set of Bridgestone tires ( G701 and  G702 ). I was able to find a maximum PSI but not a recommended PSI of air pressure. I just want to make sure I'm riding safe so for those of you who have put quite a few miles on your valk's, do you have any recommendations? I live just outside of DC so most of my riding will be in VA/MD/WV.

40 in the front and 42-44 in the back is not unusual for
Avons and Metzlers.... that's what I shoot for...

I'm running 40 psi front and rear on my Metzlers. Seems to help with getting more mileage out of the tires than the factory recomendations.

By 2nd gen Valk, you mean the new 1800 Valk: then Bridgestones run 40F and 42R. My '05 Wing has stones and that's where I set the PSI.

I have the Bridgestones on my Wing. 

Dealer tends to recommend 36 front, 40 rear, but I find that to cause severe cupping on the front and minor cupping on the rear. 

I find that 40-41 front, 42-44 rear seems to work best and NOT cause cupping.

Happy Birthday and welcome to the club.
And yes, I run 42 psi in the front and the rear on the Wing but only 36 or so on the rear of the Valk, don't want too much air in the dark side.

If normal cycle tires,  I run 38-40 psi tops in the front to absorb some of the bumps better offering a tad softer front end since still have OEM springs upfront on my I/S since I find 41-42 psi in front too harsh of a ride thru the handlebars.  am sure progressive springs in front would cure that though.  Just that say 39 to 42 psi front tire difference does make a difference that much for me in terms of ride quality.  MOre psi,  the more unforgiving the road conditions can be felt thru front handlebars plus the front tire usually lasts 15K miles or more vs. a rear tire 10-12K is all tops, so why not get a softer ride in slightly lower front psi from 38-40 vs. 41 or 42?   

Rear tire, since I am heavier at 285 and wife 170 or so riding 2-up,  I always run 45-46 psi (never below 44 psi) but if skinnier and riding solo more often,  I'd say 42-44 psi is plenty. 

Congrats as well on your B-day being a whole 4 days YOUNGER than me, mine being the 13th of April also age 46.  Sucks I was 'back in the day'  one of the youngest employees in the office,  now I am 2nd to oldest with the rest age 26-45 with my boss only older at 49.
