We took a ride to Zion this past weekend. Did some tent camping, some sightseeing, some drinking, and some riding. Not in that order though. Smiley We have been there several times now but I never get tired of the place. Truly a beautiful place, if you have not been put it on your list.

Very nice video. Zion is one place we haven't been that we've had on our short list ... maybe next year. Looks beautiful. What is the best time of year to ride there? Thank you for posting  cooldude

Zion is beautiful, been through there twice but never stayed overnight. Planning on hiking Angels landing next year on my west tour which will also include a Rim to Rim hike at the Grand Canyon.  Really beautiful area out there, too bad I wont be on a bike. Oh almost forgot your video was very cool and makes me want to make a trip out there Now. cooldude

rode thru last March on my way to GOTF, liked it so much we rented a vette from Vegas later in the year and drove up for a few days

Hiking the gorge is awesome  Did you continue past the end of the trail into the wilderness.

The east west road you show is great, truly beautiful but spending time walking the trail on the dead end road is even nicer

Thanks for posting

I would say this time is pretty good. It was 75*-80* daytime and 45* early morning. Something we didn't realize that was a bonus until we got there was it was "Get in the park free week".

Yes I agree it's even better back in the park. But the pics and video of that is not so good because of the bus ride.

As an aside Oss. I think we are going to make your Catskills Ride after all . I think I've talked my wife into us flying into NYC and renting a Goldwing for the ride. Then we will spend 2 or 3 days in the city being a tourist. The EagleRider Rental I'm thinking of using is near JFK. What would be the best route from there to the ride hotel to avoid traffic as much as possible ?

depends on time of day Meathead

Least dangerous for someone not used to trucks will have to be as follows
Belt Parkway East to Cross Island (left lanes) you can only go 1 direction to the
Throggs Neck Bridge.  If the bike does not have an EZPASS then right lanes for toll, follow left side of road to Cross Bronx Expressway (again only 1 way to go toward GWBridge)  Get off at exit for Bronx River Parkway. Dont run light at top of ramp (camera) after gas station right lane takes you on Bronx RIver parkway (the real BRP again only 1 direction north) I strongly suggest STAY in the left lane as it becomes the SPRAIN PARKWAY for 20 miles or so until the exit for WEST 287 (again a left lane exit) speed limit on the road is 50 (radar) once past the Sprain /BRP split its 55 but you can go any speed that traffic is moving safely.  Take very 1st exit, in fact you never really get on 287 your entrance ramp is the exit ramp for 9A north.  Hotel is either 1 mile or 2 miles up road depending on which one books a block for me cheapest.

Parkways are car and motorcycle only so the only road that will have trucks is the bridge and 3 miles of the Cross Bronx  Stay in the right lane on the Cross Bronx and you will stay out of trouble

What are the rates in NYC for hotel?  Parking is expensive and you could be lookin at 300 a night so you may be better staying at the host hotel and taking metro north down and back, just sayin

Man you aren't kidding about hotel rates  Shocked We won't need parking though, going to rent the bike just for the 3 days of the ride. We have some friends that have stayed at the Pennsylvania Hotel near Times Square. Right now that's our plan. Haven't booked anything yet but we are getting close, my wife likes to pay for everything months in advance.

Dang that sounds like a hell of a ride.  cooldude I'm not sure how much time you have or your planned route. But I would highly recommend Bryce and Arches also.

Heading there myself with 2 other riders the first week in June. Your video was great, very clear with no shaking. What camera are you using and where did you mount it? Also what campgrounds did you stay in?

Its hard to believe but it's a Vivitar that I got at Walmart online for $59 including all kinds of different mounts. That video it was mounted on my mirror stem. I've used it on a helmet mount , a wrist mount, and on the crash bars. We stayed Zion Canyon RV Park. It's right on the edge of the park. We've also stayed in the park before but they don't have electricity or showers. I really liked it. You guys have fun.  cooldude

Beautiful video.  Must've been a great ride.

You probably don't know this but we don't have spots like that in Kansas.   Sad

You are right, I didn't know that. One day hopefully soon I will be able to check that part of the country out.  cooldude

Well for me I do my best to avoid the Interstates. They are boring to me. Sometimes you can't help it but if you are going from Vegas to Yellowstone you can ride some great roads, see some great country and miss most of the Interstate highways.

If you're going to do Zion and Bryce, you may as well hit the North Rim of the Grand Canyon too. Also, on your way to The Grand Tetons and Yellowstone, you may as well go through Utah's Flaming Gorge. Read Big Mac's SoCal ride report trip to Inzane last year. It's the route we took, except for the jog down to the North Rim. Four of us rendezvoused in Hurricane, UT, then went through Zion, Bryce, Flaming Gorge, UT (west side), Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Cody, WY, Big Horn Mountains out of Cody to Gillett, WY, overnight,  then Devils' Tower on the short trip from Gillette to Spearfish and our destination, Inzane Rally, and early bird BBQ. On that trip we stayed in Hurricane, UT, Price UT, Pinedale WY, Cody WY, Gillette WY, Spearfish, SD.....

Great Video, thanks Rob.....rick
