A suitably glorious day for it too!

Off to the square in Laurens, past some round bales... I'm a fool
for round bales...

I didn't take any pictures of the speachifying, but we have
the observation in front of the old court house and Confederate
Soldier monument... Here's the UDC ladies lining up for some
pictures afterwards... I was trying to catch a picture of the little
guy running around with the flag, I guess this is OK...

Afterwards we had BBQ at Senator Verdin's parent's house...

You get there down this long driveway through the woods...

We all parked on the fence and had BBQ... on Confederate Memorial
Day... at the Senator's family's house... South Carolina still rocks!

I sent one of my backrests back to Corbin and they made me a
super thick one... I'm sitting a little closer to the steering head
than before, much more better  :cooldude:

Honestly,
While not trying to disrespect Confederates, I really don't see or understand the desire/need for a separate day for Confederates.

Many have given all for this country, why would one wish to designate one over another?    My grandfather (a Midwestern yankee)  is buried next to a gent from TN, should there be a fence between them?   Both are veterans of WWI.

Nice pics...thx for posting. Learn something new everyday...I never knew there was such a thing as Confederate Memorial Day in the US. One day soon I have to spend some time in those southeastern states. Good riding friends recently moved to SC (if you ever cross paths with a nice Belgian/Canadian couple on a red Victory Cross Country Tour, that's them  :)) Transfered there to finish out his career as a maintenance engineer for Nestlé,  and they are loving the new culture and lifestyle

I think with the recent slap in the face to, and lies spread abut the confederacy, I'm glad they have their own memorial day.  My ancestors weren't even in this country when the civil war occurred, so I really don't have a dog in the fight.  I just think it is appropriate to honor those who fought on both sides.  After all, confederate lives matter.

WWI binds us together as a country. The War Between the States separates us
as a country. I once saw a Southern man disrespect the American flag at
an SCV event... I've never seen him around since... there's plenty of places
where you'd get cheered as the brave hero for disrespecting the Confederate
Flag... one soldier shouldn't be designated over another, but those of us who
are willing need to continue to show respect for the Confederate Soldiers.

No desire/need exist for a separate Memorial Day, being as Confederate Memorial Day was established before the national Memorial Day observed today.

This is a day set aside for descendants of Confederate Veterans to decorate the graves and memorialize their service, nothing more than that. Yes, Confederate widows and ancestors established Memorial Day (1866). Later, other veterans were given their respect.

I am a direct descendant of Veterans of the War of 1812, "Civil War", WWI, WWII, Korean War, all buried in the same grave yard, and where I will be laid to rest in due time. I honor each the same, at the given time. On the other end of the county, I honor & decorate the grave of a direct descendant of mine who was a traitor in the Revolutionary war. My great, great, great, great Grandfather, Greenberry Wilson was a soldier who sided and fought against the tyrannical government of Great Britain.

Confederate Memorial Day, established 1866.

Nothing new, or out of the blue here for this special day. Just new to people who haven't paid attention. No offense nor disrespect taken or given on my part.

Why ? Because 110,000 southern men died in action or wounds ....230,000 plus southern men died from disease... 25,000 to 30,000 southern men died in Confederate prisons ... That's WHY.

Again, not to disrespect those who gave all in the Civil War.

Let the record show I not only see you as a Indian Giver but a prick as well .

Well, that got my attention.      Never been accused of being an Indian Giver before.............  But, your opinion is noted.

Edited:  Joe, my intent was not to piss you or anyone else off.   I even stated my due respect for all Civil War KIAs.    I have no idea why you got ticked off, it was just a query but, I'll apologize anyway.    In reference to being an Indian Giver, please enlighten me, I don't believe we've ever done business nor have I ever promised you something and not followed through.   I did offer you a tank cover thing once but, said you would have to follow me to my RV where it was at.    Is that it?   If so, you are still welcomed to it.    Was going to throw it up for an INZANE grab bag gift thing but will be happy to have you take it home.   I doubt that's the problem though.

I may be a prick but, I don't believe I'm an Indian Giver, I always keep my word.
