Windows 10 and Windows 7

My son, Psychotic Bovine,  just called me. He said when you get a popup for installing Windows 10, if you click the red X to get rid of it, it now will automatically INSTALL WINDOWS 10 BY CLICKING THE RED X!

I'm also getting a popup denouncing Windows 7 by Windows and saying there is a problem with it.

I'm staying with 7. (trying to). I don't want 10. I'm not an expert so I'll probably get sucked into it.

Crap like this should be illegal.

Wayne, I put if off until about a month ago. Rita's grandson is an IT guy in D.C., very "up" on his stuff, works for some program there in the city. When I asked who he works for he just commented that it was a new venture but wouldn't elaborate, I just know he makes a chunk of $$ at age 27. OK, next question....should I go with W10 or keep 7, is there any problems or underlying issues the every day user isn't made aware of. Long story short....he downloaded it then set it up for me while they were here visiting. I have no idea what he did but it runs smooth for me. Told me he nixed a few things that MS puts in so I told him if I ever have a problem they would have to come for another visit. I actually like it better than 7, when I changed to that I really had my troubles, I didn't fine 7 very user friendly. For me, 10 is easier to pick up on, might be due to skill developed in 7 but with the new stuff in 10 it still is easier. And they're correct, everything is right where it was with the old system so I didn't have to go looking.

I switched to 10 about 2 weeks ago. I was having some trouble with aol and had my computer guy trying to help me. I asked about windows 10 and he thought I should switch, said I should as 7 will not be updated forever. I to have been ignoring all the adds and pop ups. It took awhile for the switch and a couple of times I thought it was through but it wasn't, "I am very computer challenged". So far it has been ok as you have to get used to little differences, I have done a little customizing but with my limited knowlege, thats a slow boat . All my personal stuff and bookmarks transferred automatically. I am ok with it now. Good Luck

10 might not do right on an older computer, but if you can update to
10 and put this headache behind you, that's what I'd do.

10's not so bad, especially if all  you do is turn on the computer
and open a web browser...

I only turn on my 10 computer occasionally to do work stuff. If you wait
too long between windows updates, it takes forever on a slow Internet
link. They seem to have gone back to calling Microsoft Security Essentials
"Windows Defender", I always make sure that is updated and turned on too.

When I had Chris change me to Windows 7 we had a lot of trouble with trying to get my expensive Canon Pro 9000 printer to run with Windows 7. I finally got it to print but they're still some bugs in the application which limits my choices in printing.

This is not your everyday three in one 80 buck printer.. The Canon was expensive and is professional level.  It uses 8 cartridges and prints beautiful photos up to 13 x19.  Photo processing was why I got a computer originally.

If it wasn't for the Canon, I'd go for it.  At this point, I wish I was smarter about computers and Windows..

Windows 10 is a significant improvement.  The free upgrade is only good until July 29th, after that it will cost you over $100

There are certain updates that install Windows 10 if you delete the update reminders it will not update. The numbers are easy to find, but you will also have to select the updates to make sure you dont automatically download them. Even if you select hide this update it will still install the update reminder for 10. I dont think 10 is a significant improvement over 7 either.

I liked Windows 7, especially for work. I have grown to really like Windows 10 and now have it at work and home. Much less of a learning curve, user friendly, FREE UPGRADE for now. Take advantage.

I liken it to going from carburation to fuel injection...just don't look back, it's an improvement.

Tried it on one machine, worked great, then another, another.  All computers now upgraded to 10 with no issues.  Turned off the spyware (or as much as they let you turn off).

Had a similar problem with printer drivers but eventually found one for my big photoprinter.  In my case, I downloaded the Win7 driver and it worked under Win10.  This may or may not work for your situation.

My understanding is that you can download and update to Windows 10, then roll back to Windows 7. This way you have the free upgrade (I assume you can roll forward), but you can keep using your preferred Windows 7. I saw this as a Yahoo link/ad. I have already updated to 10 and have no desire to roll back to 7, so I am not speaking from experience.

I guess my response is that by using Windows (whatever version), you agree to their terms of service. I'm pretty sure you can stick with Windows 7, you just have to be careful which link you click. Kind of the same with Adobe Flash Player. Unless you pay attention, you will install McAfee and other crap. Opting out is not a new concept. If you don't want Windows, reach out to hubcapsc (or someone else using an alternate OS).

I personally think we have way too many laws on the books, and do not need additional legislation regulating Windows updates.

I upgraded my netbook to windows 10.

I don't have any issues with using it.

However, the upgrade did delete some files and programs from the computer.

For that reason I refuse to upgrade my primary laptop from Win 8.1 to Win 10.
