*BEST POLITICAL QUOTE OF ANY ERA:  *

*"The Budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public

debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and

controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed, lest

Rome will become bankrupt.  People must again learn to work instead of

living on public assistance."*

*- Cicero, 55 B.C.*

Somehow, I missed the "racist " part.
This sounds a lot like Donald Trumps basic message?

It eludes to the "assistance to foreign lands must be curtailed" part and meant as a joke.

When conservatives call for budget cutting, they are called racists, because some people who are non white will have their freebies cut.  So, therefore, the conservatives are "racist".

It is meant as a joke here, but as all good jokes do, it has that kernel of truth to it.

They are labeled racist by even more whites of a different political persuasion because it is easier to do than actually solve the problem.  One of the big dust ups between Trump and Ryan right now is because Ryan wants Trump to address entitlements in the platform.  Trump has said to do this is political suicide and at this juncture it is.  However once elected I am quite certain Trump would address this issue as it is hanging over us like a perpetual hangover. Cicero is considered to be one of Rome's greatest philosophers.   Indeed Rome did not follow Cicero's advice and in the end he paid for it by having Mark Anthony take his head, hands and limbs.  At that time the sword was mightier than the tongue.

While reducing "entitlements" may be the right thing to do, it'll never happen even if Trump is elected and attempts to do so.    Too many elected officials are not willing to cut the throats or benefits of those who either put them in office or, can help them leave office.    Such a cut will never get through Congress, regardless of which party controls it.

It will happen sooner or later because there is no other solution, however I expect it will be later.  Currently 71 percent of the budget and increasing every year it will choke out all other spending.  Our infrastructure is eroding  and yet there is not enough funds to deal with it.  1 percent gdp as the new norm will not secure the necessary funds.

And about the time they decide to ask for 50% or more of a working man's money, is about the time they should be removed of their heads.

Yes it does.  Nearly every day you cover the news, you read about massive fraud, waste and abuse of public funds.  You get the feeling they think of it as mere monopoly money.  So when they come asking for more, I have no patience or tolerance.  If you are going to piss billions away, how about if every person in this country (that actually pays taxes) just gives you a tithe (10%), and you learn to live with it?  You going to prosecute and jail all of us?  Great, then you won't even get 10%.

Maybe a virtuous goal but,
"Those words were never uttered by Cicero, however, and the reason no one ever quoted them as such until about fifty years ago is because they weren't written until 1965. They sprang from the pen of Taylor Caldwell, a fiction writer best known for historical novels such as Captains and the Kings, her 1972 best-selling chronicle of the rise to wealth and power of an Irish immigrant named Joseph Francis Xavier Armagh (which was also made into a popular television mini-series in 1976)."   http://www.snopes.com/quotes/cicero.asp

I certainly don't like losing money in stocks.
