Wire ID for the I/S speed sensor.

I'm going blind trying to read the extremely fine print/drawing of the I/S circuits. What I'm trying to determine is the function of the three wires on the I/S speed sensor pickup. Tell me if I'm on the right track here; green/black is ground, black/yellow is the output, black/brown is the B+.

I'm adapting an aftermarket digital speedo/tach combo to the 1200 and getting rid of those big OEM uglies. It uses a separate 3-wire speed sensor like the I/S except the gear drive is for a smaller axle so couldn't use it. I'm using a spare I/S sensor wire loom in place of it since the gear drive on the 1200 is the same as the Valkyrie....the sensor bolts right in just like on the I/S. I just need to be certain I have the wiring correct, don't really want to burn the unit up after all the trouble of fabbing up an SS mounting bracket for it.

Black/Yellow (+)
Green/Black (-)

Nice pictures, shows the connector, but nothing about that B+

Guess I'm old fashion, B+ refers to 12vdc or any other power source depending on what you're working on. Thanks for the reference.  :cooldude:

I see two drawings on that page; the first shows the center wire is signal +, on black/yellow, and the second shows B+ is black/brown and (-) is green/black. The text confirms it.

I got it wired right on the first try. Since the 1200 isn't road ready just yet, I used a small screw driver bit in an electric drill. I turned on the key then hit the drill....I was doing 90 mph sitting still.  ;D

Careful John. You don't want to rack up too many miles.

That sometimes happened to me in the 70's...  :o
